K-State Olathe is offering a cooking class that teaches Greater Kansas City residents living with Type 2 diabetes how to control the disease through healthy, delicious meals. In the class, participants discuss diet and nutrition before reproducing recipes and learning cooking techniques and concepts needed to create healthy food on a daily basis. The class is 3 hours and is the first Tuesday of every month. 
  
Nov. 3 event spotlights Zika research, collaborative health care in Greater KC

Join us from 4-7 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Kauffman Foundation for Kansas City One Health Day. The free event brings together a series of bioscience-related activities to celebrate and spotlight One Health. Activities include Collaborate2Cure, networking at a BioBreak and a keynote presentation by renowned Zika expert, Stephen Higgs.


K-State Olathe was named a Gold Level Healthy KC Certified Organization by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. The certification recognizes employees' efforts to make K-State Olathe a workplace that promotes health and wellness.

  • Effects of physical exercise thesis seminar, Nov. 4 -- Lucile Jarry, master's degree student in food science, is giving the seminar "Effects of Physical Exercise on Sensory Perception and Hedonic Response" for her master's degree thesis defense.   • Food cooling thesis seminar, Nov. 10 -- Lindsay Beardall, master's degree student in food science, is giving the seminar "Evaluating the Impact of School Nutrition Program Cooling Techniques on Pathogen Population Survival in Commercially Prepared Food Products." K-State Olathe recently published its Annual Security Report for 2016. The report, also called the Clery Report, is  intended to inform the public of information about crime on and around campus, efforts to improve campus safety, and university policies. Its purpose is to provide individuals with information that will help them make informed decisions relating to their own safety and the safety of others. The results are in: K-State Olathe employees were crowned the winners of the university's Movement Challenge. The six-week event challenged employees at the four Kansas State University campuses to walk at least 10,000 steps each day and record their results. The K-State Olathe team topped the department tally by walking an average of 17,131 steps each day.  

More than 150 high school students met at K-State Olathe on Oct. 14 to learn about and practice their soft skills. Students learned how to effectively write a resume; practiced their handshakes, eye contact and small talk with instructors and were critiqued on their abilities; and participated in mock job interviews with select local employers.


As part of a team building exercise, two groups from K-State Olathe participated in an escape room challenge in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. Participants were locked together in a Leonardo da Vinci-themed room and required to solve a series of puzzles in an hour time frame to unlock the door. Puzzles required creativity, experimentation, communication and teamwork.
