Attacking cancer with One Health approach is topic of Nov. 1 event with life sciences community
 

On Nov. 1, celebrate and learn how the One Health approach is revolutionizing research and breakthroughs in human, animal and environmental health. The free event features an expert panel who will discuss attacking cancer using a One Health approach.

Industry-government connections forged at first regulatory affairs seminar

On Sept. 21, 130 professionals from animal health companies across the U.S. met at K-State Olathe to discuss the challenges and opportunities in the current regulatory process with leadership at the Food and Drug Administration's Center for Veterinary Medicine.

American Royal, K-State Olathe conclude high 'steaks' contest for US beef producers

The American Royal Association and K-State Olathe conducted an annual steak competition to find the best-tasting steak in America. 


For the second year, K-State Olathe has been named one of the healthiest workplaces by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. The status recognizes workplace efforts that encourage exercise, healthy eating, tobacco cessation and more.


K-State Olathe and the Johnson County Extension Office recently hosted a series of activities -- including salsa making -- designed to teach Blue Valley Middle School students about food safety and build interest in careers in STEM fields.


A training seminar on the Clery Act is Oct. 10-11 at 
K-State Olathe. It addresses Title IX and Clery Act intersections, compliance challenges, amendments to the Violence Against Women Act and more. The training open to educational partners at other universities and schools.

  • Veterinary Surgery, Oct. 4 -- Join Kara Berke, D.V.M., clinical associate professor, as she discusses performing surgery on animals in the Veterinary Health Center at Kansas State University. Berke specializes in small animal orthopedic and soft tissue surgery. This free lecture is from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Oct. 4. It is part of the Careers and Cases in Veterinary Medicine Lectures.   • Master of Science in Veterinary Biomedical Science Webinar, Oct. 11 -- From noon to 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 11, Paige Adams, D.V.M. and faculty member of the veterinary biomedical science master's program at K-State Olathe, will discuss how the program prepares and educates graduates to be the next generation of leaders in animal health.   • Leading through Change, Oct. 19-20 -- This professional development conference is
    Oct. 19-20. It focuses on effective leadership in a changing, multigenerational workplace.   • Equine Case Studies, Oct. 25 -- Beth Davis, professor and head of the clinical sciences department at Kansas State University, will share about her experiences treating horses brought to the university's Veterinary Health Center. The free lecture is from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at K-State Olathe. It is part of the Careers and Cases in Veterinary Medicine Lectures. Register for the event starting Oct. 5. 
     
  • Food science webinar, Oct. 26 -- Sara Gragg, assistant professor of animal sciences and industry, is discussing the food science program at K-State Olathe and some of the research conducted by students in her food science lab. Around the campus
 

Sixty-six members of the Refrigerated Foods Association recently visited K-State Olathe to learn about and see some of the food-related services and facilities at the campus. They practiced their kitchen sanitation techniques under a blacklight; swabbed for listeria and learned how samples are tested in the campus labs; and participated in a sensory test that used emojis as a rating system.
