Community connections lead to enhanced PawsAbilities

K-State's Olathe campus and PawsAbilities have been working together for six years on various projects. Most recently, the two collaborated on a pumpkin-based pet treat. PawsAbilities is the retail business for Inclusion Connections, an Olathe-based nonprofit that provides an array of services to help individuals who have developmental disabilities, such as Down syndrome or autism, so they can be more independent.

JoCo Research Triangle on its way to a $1.16 billion impact
|
In the decade since Johnson County voters approved the one-eighth-cent sales tax to support creating the Johnson County Education Research Triangle (JCERT), the initiative returned more than $64 million a year in economic impact for Kansas City. K-State Olathe is one of the three JCERT funded organizations dedicated to expanding STEM education and research in Johnson County.

It will cover topics important to sellers, such as sales tax, food stamps, pest control, regulations on goods and more. |

Ashlee Skinner recently presented her master's thesis, "Integrating Cover Crops into High Tunnel Production Systems." Her research looked at which summer and winter cover crops grow best in high tunnels (low-cost alternatives to greenhouses) and how cover crops affect soil nutrients and insects in high tunnels. Her advisor is Cary Rivard, associate professor in horticulture and natural resources, extension specialist and director of the K-State Research and Extension Center - Olathe.
