The month spotlights the complex interrelationships between human, animal and environmental health. Kansas State University and its Olathe campus are involved in various aspects of the One Health initiative.

The shorts are made by K-State students in art, English and journalism collaborating to document the challenges faced by Kansas residents living in rural and urban food deserts -- places where fresh food is difficult to obtain. The free event is part of the Food for Thought Film Series that is organized by the Olathe campus' urban food systems program. |

College preparation workshop for Latino families, March 28
-- Employers, schools and post-secondary institutions in Johnson County, including K-State's Olathe campus, are hosting an event on March 28 to educate students about how to prepare for college; topics include tips for preparing for the ACT, financial aid timeline and materials needed to apply, scholarships, dual enrollment and advanced credit. Parents also will have the opportunity to visit with a college navigator from KC Degrees and Kansas State College Advisers and alumni. -- Successful leaders are able to work with and lead others in a culturally diverse workforce. Diversity crosses cultural, global and generational issues. This interactive workshop on Feb. 27, 2020, will provide ways to understand and collaborate with your colleagues by examining workplace flexibility, teamwork, feedback and leadership. Three Bears Bakery and BBQ
. The family business specializes in Keto and diabetic friendly, low-carb and sugar-free baked goods as well as select barbecue items. Entrepreneurs Jabin and Natalie Olds -- Papa Bear and Mama Bear -- are using the test kitchen and its equipment to scale up their production of baked goods, which they sell at farmers markets.

Salad contest cultivates knowledge, future workforce
|
Annabelle Bitner and Kiersten Bowen captured the first place award in the high school division for Willie and the Salad Bonanza Contest. Their sponsor Greg Krenke will add this plaque to his classroom wall. Annabelle will start the next school year at K-State, with an eye on environmental engineering as a possible major. Kiersten will return to Olathe North High School as a senior and is planning to recruit apprentices for another win. Congratulations!
