Kansas hemp growers are voluntarily sending samples of their hemp crops to the campus' Postharvest Physiology Lab to get the analysis and quantifications of five hemp-based cannabinoids, including delta-9 THC and CBD.

Three graduate students are receiving scholarships for the fall 2019 academic semester made possible by the Johnson County Education Research Triangle, or JCERT.

Climate change and extreme weather events are topics of upcoming One Health Day
On Nov. 6, K-State Olathe is hosting Kansas City One Health Day. The event focuses on climate change and extreme weather events. It also includes an opportunity for students to present their One Health-related research.

A high 'steaks' competition
K-State Olathe hosted the 8th annual American Royal Association's Steak Contest -- a contest to find the tastiest steak in America. Dozens of entry steaks from beef producers were prepared in an identical manner in the research kitchens, then served to a panel of restaurateurs, food bloggers and beef council representatives, who sample the steaks and assigned points for flavor, juiciness and texture. Results help determine what breeds, feeding methods and other practices consistently produce the best steak for American consumers. 

Staff Highlight: Angela Buzard
Angela Buzard is the manager of training and development at K-State Olathe. She develops and manages professional development programming and activities that enhance Greater Kansas City's workforce.

Buzard was named the chair of the Kansas City Association for Talent Development's Annual Conference, which was held on Sept. 10. Under her leadership, the conference was the biggest to date with 160 attendees and 13 vendors/sponsors.

Besides her leadership role, she also presented a webinar to the National Association of Talent Development in August.
Student Profile: Emily Overmyer
Meet Emily Overmyer, retail pricing and formulation supervisor for Cargill Feed and Nutrition. She decided to earn her professional science master's degree from K-State Olathe so she could gain the skills and knowledge needed for multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary problem-solving approaches.

dRIT Workshop (Direct, Rapid Immunohistochemical Test), Oct. 26 -- Direct, Rapid Immunohistochemical Test (dRIT) is a field test for the surveillance and evaluation for the detection of the rabies virus antigen in brain tissue. Registered participants will have the opportunity to learn about dRIT and to perform the dRIT testing. Registration is limited and costs $150. Registering participants must have received rabies prophylaxis and show proof of a current adequate titer response at the time of registration. The half-day conference is Oct. 26. | Register now

We are extremely proud of our 10 students who earned scholarships to the hospitality management bachelor's degree completion program. Most students in the program are non-traditional, with some having children, a full-time or part-time job, being out of the higher education environment for more than a decade, and more.
