New session, new opportunities

The time between an election's results and the beginning of the next legislative session can seem interminable. And yet, the session has finally arrived, and the team at KAC is eager to continue our work in the statehouse!

This is my first legislative session as the Director of Government Relations for Kansas Action for Children, and I'm excited to see the current momentum to improve the lives of Kansas kids and families.

My time in the Capitol will be spent building relationships with lawmakers and legislative staff, following the day-to-day activities of the legislature, and building support for prioritizing kids and families across a spectrum of legislation and regulations.

Anyone can be a champion for kids, and KAC is focused on inspiring more people to speak up on behalf of the littlest ones in our state. Stay close to what is going on this session by subscribing to our Capitol Connection email newsletter and following KAC staff on Twitter.

I'll see you at the statehouse!

Ribbon cutting for #ksleg lactation room

KAC staff were on hand for the ribbon cutting of a new lactation room at the statehouse on Friday morning. We were excited to support this family and kid friendly change. And it wouldn't have happened without leadership from legislators, advocates, and the Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition.

We were pleased to see multiple news stories about the room's opening. Read all about it!

The energy at the Capitol on Friday morning was fabulous. And it's just the beginning.

KAC staff on hand included (from left) Vice President of Advocacy John Wilson, Outreach Specialist Mitch Rucker, Communications Director Clay Wirestone, Director of Finance and Operations Rochelle Adams, Director of Government Relations Adrienne Olejnik, and Research Fellow Amina Seck.
