Message from KACC Executive Director

It may not feel like it but it is officially summer!

Wishing you all a great start to the summer and to the seasonal businesses, I hope that you have a great season ahead and get a chance to enjoy the beautiful Island weather and wonderful places to see and visit that our Island has to offer.

Remember to support and shop local as much as you can!

We do not offer as many sessions and events throughout the summer months as we know how busy most people are or they are on vacation but have a few below if you are able to attend! We are already planning into the Fall for sessions and Small Business week events for October, so please reach out if you have any recommendations for sessions that you feel would benefit your business.

If you have something going on at your business or organization that you would like us to help promote or to attend, please tag us in the post or send an email!

On June 30, Prince Edward Island will bring the new Employment Standards Act into force, which modernizes and strengthens the rights and obligations of employees and employers.

Some of the key changes under the new Act include:

- Introducing up to 27 weeks of job-protected, unpaid medical leave

- Increasing unpaid sick leave from three to four days per year

- Limiting employer requests for sick notes to absences of five or more consecutive days and expanding the range of qualified health professionals who can provide them

- Reducing the maximum work week from 48 hours to 44 hours

- Updated termination provisions and enforcement mechanisms

- Requiring employers to provide work schedules at least one week in advance, except in extenuating circumstances

- Extending sick leave provisions to unionized employees

BGC Prince County Kensington

Welcome to BGC Prince Country Kensington as a member of the Kensington & Area Chamber!

BGC Prince County's newest addition early years and school age program in Kensington opened about a year ago. We are very appreciative to have another centre for pre school, after school and summer programs in Kensington!
