Message from the Mayor
Credit Union Centre Upgrades – The Credit Union Centre (formerly Community Gardens) was transferred to the Town in 2011 by the Kensington and Area Recreation Association. With the help of the Federal and Provincial Government, by the end of this year, we will have invested over $3 million in upgrades and improvements. While the rink is old, the facility is structurally sound. Most of the upgrades are to ensure the facility continues to function efficiently and provide a recreation outlet for all communities surrounding Kensington. Additionally, we are looking at steps we can take to reduce or lessen our operating costs, such as LED lighting and solar panels. Electricity is the second largest expense behind wages. Anything we can do to lessen these direct operating costs provides long term stability of the facility. Watch for significant upgrades to the facility including new boards around the ice surface, new protective glass and nets, modernized washrooms and other smaller improvements before the fall hockey season. We aim to provide an efficient, clean recreation facility and we are adding more resources to ensure this does happen.
