CHAMBER NEWS
Message from Executive Director

It's been a tough start to the 2022 year with Covid Restrictions and seeing an all time high in cases right now. We have to be hopeful that those numbers will soon be coming down and that the local economy will be able to see the benefits of the restrictions being lifted. There is a lot of turmoil and uncertainty going on in the world at the moment and we are thankful that we live in a place that we do not feel threatened and feel safe, even though we are seeing the effects from what is going on in many areas, especially the rise in fuel prices.

The Kensington & Area Chamber will continue to keep you up to date on any funding options that may be beneficial to you during these challenging times. We are also looking forward to having some more in person events. We plan to have a morning coffee mixer most months in various locations in the area and the details for the President's Dinner are being worked out for Mid-May.

Looking forward to working with the current and new Board Members on our goals and ideas for the upcoming year. If you would like to become involved in some way, please reach out to see what options there are.

The Chamber will be looking to hire a youth (between ages 15-30) for the summer months, details to come soon!

Spring is just around the corner with fresh starts and new beginnings. Wishing you all a positive and prosperous Spring!

Julie Corbett

Message from the Mayor
Did You Know! At the Town Council meeting held on February 14, 2022, Town Council adopted a motion to declare free registration for all dogs with the Town of Kensington. The fee used to be $8 per dog. Anyone who has already registered their dog(s) in 2022 will be receiving a refund cheque in the near future by mail. Town bylaws require all dogs to be registered. If the registration fee has been a deterrent, then we would encourage you to please register your dog(s). If a dog is found wondering around town and it has a Town of Kensington dog tag, then you can be assured the dog will be returned to the owner easily and not end up being taken to the humane society where they try to find the owner. We all know that no one intends to lose their dog but we also all know that accidents can happen and dogs can be get out. If you value your dog, we encourage you to register it.

We want to acknowledge the devastating events in Ukraine. Canada is home to more than 1 million Ukrainians and the third largest population of Ukrainians outside of Ukraine and Russia. We recognize that many of you have roots and ties to the people of Ukraine.

The Canadian Chamber’s ‘How businesses and Canadians can help Ukraine’ webpage includes links to the specific areas of greatest need that outline meaningful ways to assist and make donations. The page also includes key information from Global Affairs Canada related to trade sanctions, as well as information on ways that businesses can support humanitarian efforts. This page will be updated as the situation develops.
