PROVINCIAL ELECTION DEBATE
It's official. Last Monday evening, Premier Dennis King called an early provincial election. Islanders will head to the polls Monday, April 3. 
With an election now underway, our Chamber is planning its a Debate for the Candidates in this area, District 20.
The Kensington & Area Chamber is excited to be able to partner with Workplace Learning PEI who is offering some great workplace skills sessions in March!
Attend one or all three sessions.

We had so much fun last year at our first Casino Night that we are going to have another one! We are also celebrating President, Tessa Roberts and the KACC Board of Directors for this year! Tickets are $40 (including taxes), there will be munchies, prizes and lots of fun! New London Community Complex on Thur, April 13th at 7:00pm.

Provincial Government Updates

Applications for the Rural Enhancement Employment Program (REEP), previously known as the Rural Jobs Initiatives, open April 1. This program, offered by the Employment Development Agency, offers support with one position for a business annually and up to two positions in a three-year period.
The funding available includes:
Non-profit and Municipality Organizations: up to 75% of a position up to a rate of $18.00/hour (inclusive of vacation pay) for up to 20 weeks based upon funding of a 40-hour week. 
Private Sector Businesses: up to 50% of a position up to a rate of $18.00/hour (inclusive of vacation pay) for up to 20 weeks based upon funding of a 40-hour week.

The Council of Atlantic Premiers has announced plans to create a new Atlantic Registry for physicians and surgeons, looking to make it easier for physicians to practice throughout the four provinces by reducing the red tape and paperwork that comes with working in provinces other than where they have a medical license. The Atlantic premiers anticipate this registry will be in place by May 1.
 
The Government of PEI is increasing the financial recruitment incentives for registered nurses, nurse practitioners, and midwives and adding a new financial incentive for licensed practical nurses
The Recruitment Incentives include:
An increase from $5,000 to $8,000 for recently graduated and experienced registered nurses, nurse practitioners, and midwives
An increase from $15,000 to $18,000 for experienced nurse practitioners and midwives
$5,000 for recently graduated and experienced licensed practical nurses
