Lord Jesus, Lent invites us to walk with you down your narrow way in obedience to a cross on a hill. We need courage to join you in that walk for it means saying "No" to other ways easier to pursue. The enticements of this world are alluring to us. We have many things which vie for our attention promising us pleasure and success. So we grab at this or that bright enticement, fearing we might miss the one possession that would give our lives meaning. Teach us the virtue of resistance so we might be able to renounce the evil which lurks around us. We need courage to accept and take up your way to the cross, the way which leads to life both now and for the future. Amen

It's baseball time again!

On Tuesday, April 9 we will head to Chase Field to watch the Diamondbacks play the Texas Rangers. We will meet in the east church parking lot and be transported by bus to the game!

The cost is ($37) per person which includes your ticket and transportation. Sign up in the church office.
On Friday, April 12, 12:00 pm we will work to alleviate hunger by packing MannaPacks (vitamin and mineral fortified rice meals specifically for malnourished children) at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC).

We will carpool from the church east parking lot, participate in a  short orientation on how to pour, weigh, seal and box the meals before we begin our two hour assignment. There are jobs for those who are unable to stand for long periods of time. The time flies and is fun!
Our church will be presenting FMSC with a check (approximately $50 per volunteer) to cover the cost of the food and shipping, if you wish to add to that amount (give to Christy before packing), our church Mission Committee will present your donation along with the check from the church.
To register call or email Christy Thomas at or

Singles Green Book 2019

The Singles attended the Oscar winning movie Green Book and then were off to the Olive Garden for an enjoyable dinner.
To let you know your donations matter, SLUMC provided donated items to the Hope Women's Center in Coolidge: A carload of food, including 37 pounds of peanut butter; sweaters and coats; a beautiful baby quilt from the Krafters; and, oh yes, two new teddy bears.

On our behalf, Tracy Perry, pastor of Spirit of Joy UMC in Coolidge, who has been routinely delivering items from us to the women's center which is close to her church.
We received this note from Pastor Tracy:

Jolyn [center director] was thrilled!! She hasn't been able to keep up with the demand for food boxes, so this was wonderful. Thank you all so much. You are wonderful! With love, Tracy.
