Pastor Marvin Arnpriester
|
Friends,
I encourage you to attend our special Maundy Thursday service at Sun Lakes UMC and Good Friday service at Chandler First UMC. Both services will begin at 6:00 pm. A joint choir presentation, It is Finished, will be presented by the combined choirs from Sun Lakes and Chandler First Churches. As part of the service, Jonathan Arnpriester will preach at Sun Lakes and Marvin Arnpriester will preach at Chandler First. The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be observed at both services.
We will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus from the dead at our regular worship services this weekend. Special music will be shared as we join in affirming our faith in the risen Lord. I look forward to joining you in these special Holy Week and Easter Services. I encourage you to invite a friend to join you in worship.
On April 27 we go to one Sunday morning worship service at 9:00 a.m. Reverend David Holling, who recently joined our staff, will preach that day.

UNISON PRAYER - APRIL 13/14
|
|
Almighty God, we celebrate this day as Palm Sunday, when your son Jesus entered Jerusalem to the accompaniment of joyous shouts by the crowds. He was hailed "king" by those who thought they knew what it meant. We know that before the week was over they turned on him and left him in the cruel hands of those who tortured him and put him to death. We are reminded of our own deceit, cruelty and betrayal of each other. We have also betrayed you with the cowardice of weak discipleship as we have taken the easy way out. Forgive us, heal and restore us. Make us more like Jesus. Amen.

When you hear the name of a loved one who died, is there a catch in your throat or do tears trickle down your cheeks? Is the pain of your loved one's passing making it harder and harder each day for you to function?
If you are trying to "get a handle" on your grief and find you need help, consider joining GriefShare, an 11-week grief support group. Lead by people who themselves have experienced a loss, participants find understanding, encouragement and support.
The next GriefShare class begins Wednesday, May 1, 1:00 pm, Room 4. The cost is ($15) which covers the cost of the workbook. For more information or to register, contact the office or log onto the church website at sunlakesumc.org.

SANCTUARY AIR CONDITIONER REPLACEMENT FUND |
|
|
It is time to replace the air-conditioning system in the Sanctuary. It is some 22 years old and there have been some minor problems from time to time. There is concern about it failing in the heat of the summer. Because it was a unique system built especially for our Sanctuary, we can't just go out and purchase a new, ready built one. It will take six to eight weeks to build a new system for our Sanctuary. Knowing it is not a matter of IF but WHEN, our Trustees are seeking to be proactive rather than reactive. We don't want to be out of the Sanctuary for six to eight weeks while the new system is constructed. So, the Trustees are getting four bids from which they will recommend one to the Administrative Council for approval. Thus, the need arises to begin a Sanctuary Air Conditioner Replacement Fund. The Finance Committee will be involved in the process of funding this project. We will keep you informed as we move forward in this important endeavor. Thank you in advance for your continuing support to keep our Sanctuary cool.

Kudos to UMW's Faith Circle which has taken on, as their circle's mission project, The Hope Women's Center in Coolidge!
On April 11, members of the circle traveled to Coolidge where they prepared lunch for the women at the center and delivered donations to a very appreciative group.

Chime Choir - Pastors and Spouses |
The Sun Bells had a great concert last Sunday!
The 14 ringers played music reflecting the Spring Season - blooming flowers, renewed spiritualism, and Easter. The group
We Three
and the
Men's Quartet
sang some beautiful music.
Our special Chime Choir, consisting of our five pastors and four spouses, played Crown Him With Many Crowns with gusto!
A big thank you to those who attended, and for the donations given.

A group of 14 singles enjoyed an interesting tour of the new (Aug 2018) Chandler Public Safety Training Center for Chandler Fire and Police.
Fire Battalion Chief Jason White explained how this "state of the art" facility works, providing training for not only Chandler Fire and Police, but several other districts as well.
We toured various training offices and examined the six-story tower; luckily none of us had to climb with a 60 pound pack! Then into the multi-use burn building which can simulate a single or multi-story home, an apartment complex, shopping mall or cafeteria. We were glad they did not fill it with smoke and fire while we were inside!
Chief White also covered the close relationship between the Chandler Fire and Police departments. He told how the firemen have to now have bullet proof vests available in case a fire also involves a shooter. One more heavy item to carry on a potentially hot day!
Afterwards, we enjoyed a nice lunch at Keegan's!

The church office will be closed on Monday, April 22 for the Easter holiday. It will reopen on Tuesday, April 23 at 9:00 am.
