MOUNTAIN TOP MEDIA TO ACQUIRE EAST KENTUCKY BROADCASTING
A newly formed LLC, Mountain Top Media, under the direction of President Cindy May Johnson, is in the process of acquiring the assets of East Kentucky Broadcasting and East Kentucky Radio Network. East Kentucky Broadcasting (EKB) includes nine radio stations and a TV station serving areas of Kentucky, West Virginia and Virginia, as well as multiple websites and digital properties. As is common in the broadcast industry, when radio station licenses are being sold or acquired, the buyer enters into a local marketing agreement (LMA) to program the daily operation of the stations until the transfer of licensing takes place. The final transfer is expected to happen within six months; the LMA is already in effect.
“We are so excited and grateful to be involved with the daily operations of a company that has been a pillar of our community for many years,” said Cindy May Johnson, President of Mountain Top Media, LLC. “Our vision for this legacy company is to serve our local listeners with intense local news, weather, sports and entertainment, and to continue to encourage and develop local businesses. Our clients can expect an innovative approach to marketing strategies across a variety of proven platforms.”
Johnson’s experience in media is far reaching, having managed the stations of EKB for several years and conceptualized the region’s first independent local TV station. “I know how much these stations mean to our community, and I love that the people here are invested in their favorite stations. What is most important to me is the role these stations have played in serving our region. It’s an important obligation, and we are honored to serve the people of central Appalachia.”
Lynn Parrish and Rusty Justice of Bit Source, Jigsaw and other successful enterprises are also partners in Mountain Top Media, LLC.
“We’ve combined a wealth of experience and love for our community in Mountain Top Media. Industry knowledge, a passion for our region, leadership and a history of successful businesses is a great combination,” said Johnson.

In the last few months, we probably have had more questions about advertising for CBD products than any other topic. At this point, CBD products seem to be sold in nearly every state in the country, and discussions about CBD’s effectiveness seem to be staples on national and local television talk programs. Broadcasters naturally ask whether they can advertise these seemingly ubiquitous products. Unfortunately, the state of the law on CBD at the current time is particularly confusing, as discussed in
