STEVE NEWBERRY LEAVING NAB FOR QUU
QUU, a pioneer in driving the evolution of radio, announces veteran media executive Steve Newberry has been named Chief Executive Officer of the company, effective April 1, 2020. In addition, he will serve on the Company’s Board of Directors and receive an equity stake in QUU.

Newberry currently serves as Executive Vice President for Industry Affairs and Strategic Planning at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), where he has been responsible for overseeing multiple NAB projects, including the organization’s outreach and initiatives with the automotive industry and construction of a new NAB headquarters in the Capitol Riverfront section of Washington, DC.

Newberry will continue in his current role until March 31, 2020 to ensure a smooth transition and completion of the official opening of the NAB’s new headquarters.

“Steve Newberry has been a tremendous asset to NAB and the entire broadcast industry for decades,” said NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith. “While we hate to see him leave, we’re delighted Steve will be with us through the completion of our move to a new headquarters this Spring. We’re also pleased that Steve will be fulfilling his entrepreneurial passion with QUU, an auto dashboard initiative that uses technology to improve the listener experience and drive higher radio station revenue. On a personal level, I will miss Steve’s daily presence at NAB and will always be grateful for his friendship and many contributions to the success of broadcasting.”

“It has been an absolute honor and privilege to work closely with Senator Gordon Smith and the incredible team at the NAB over the past several years, both as past Joint Board Chair and as Executive Vice President for Industry Affairs and Strategic Planning on behalf of the organization,” said Newberry. “I look forward to the opportunity to work closely with Joe Harb and the QUU team to offer exciting, game-changing ad sync technology that provides results for broadcasters and their advertisers in the coming year.”

“Steve’s proven leadership and vast experience in the media industry made him the absolute perfect choice to oversee QUU,” said Joe Harb, company founder and chief innovation officer. “We look forward to driving the company to new levels in offering new, unique opportunities that provide outstanding results for broadcasters and their clients.”

Newberry will remain in his role as Chairman of Glasgow, Kentucky-based Commonwealth Broadcasting. He will be based in Washington, DC.

ARE YOU READY FOR LICENSE RENEWAL?
In preparation for filing for filing the license renewal application due to be submitted to the FCC by April 1, 2020, full-power AM, FM, and FM translator stations in Kentucky must air on February 1, 2020 the first of four required pre-filing announcements, announcing to the public that you will be filing your license renewal application. The other pre-filing announcements are to be run on February 16, March 1, and March 16. At least two announcements of the four announcements must air between 7 AM and 9 AM or between 4 PM and 6 PM. Sample text of the pre-filing announcement can be found on the FCC’s website by  clicking on this link .

This is also a good time to begin to prepare for the license renewal filing itself. Stations should take time now to review their public file for accuracy (see  this article  for a link to a video prepared for the Indiana Broadcasters, who file their renewal at the same time as stations in Kentucky, all about the importance of the public file, with links to other articles about other renewal-related FCC paperwork requirements), become familiar with the renewal form ( Form 303-S ), and be sure that the person responsible for filing the form has access to and is familiar with the FCC’s License and Management System ( LMS ) database, which is where the license renewal application will be filed.
