TRANSLATOR COMMENTS DUE TODAY
The FCC Chairman has released a draft proposed   Report and Order   that is scheduled to be considered at the May 9, 2019  Open Commission Meeting   amending the FCC’s rules and procedures regarding FM translator interference.

The FCC states that the rule and procedure changes would: (1) limit or avoid protracted and contentious interference disputes, (2) provide translator licensees additional investment certainty and flexibility to remediate interference, and (3) provide affected stations earlier and expedited resolution of interference complaints.

The draft  Report and Order  is released as part of the FCC Chairman’s transparency efforts to let the public know the substance of items set for a vote. It allows the public a brief final time period to comment upon specific rule changes. The cover page warns in the first footnote that any such public comments must be filed in MB Docket No. 18-119 through the FCC’s ECFS  filing system , and must abide by the FCC’s Sunshine Agenda rules which generally prohibit such comments in the week immediately prior to a Commission meeting. This means that broadcasters now have until approximately May 2 to make final comments to the FCC.

MARCONI AWARD NOMINATIONS OPEN
TThe  National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) announced today that it will accept nominations for the 2019 NAB Marconi Radio Awards until May 31. The  Marconi Radio Awards recognize overall excellence and performance in radio.

Syndicators and affiliates may also submit nominations for the category of "Network/Syndicated Personality of the Year."

“For three decades, the Marconi Awards have honored broadcast stations, industry leaders, programmers and on-air talent for their tremendous work in entertaining and informing tens of millions of listeners across the country,” said NAB Executive Vice President of Strategic Planning and Industry Affairs Steve Newberry. “We are excited to bring new changes to the awards that recognize radio’s continuing innovation and evolution.”

"Swagger On" Sales Roadshow Recap
This week, Derron Steenbergen and I crisscrossed the State, logging nearly 600 miles with stops in Pikeville, Lexington, Louisville, Campbellsville, Owensboro and Paducah. Nearly 150 KBA members from both radio and television were treated to an impactful and high-energy training session that challenged them to think differently, ask the right questions and how to standout in a crowed marketplace.

On behalf of those who attended this week, I would like to thank Derron Steenbergen and the Swagger Institute for bringing fresh ideas and new practices into our communities and stations.

The spring sales roadshow is provided free of charge to members of the Kentucky Broadcasters Association.
