Hopefully we have made it abundantly clear that the Association exists because of your generous participation in the PEP program. But there is more to PEP than just downloading the latest spot and adding it to your rotation. For most of us, we tend to view PEP through our own set of one-sided blinders. Recently, I had the privilege to sit down with Doug Hogan, Communications Director for the Cabinet for Health & Family Services. Doug is one of us. A broadcaster who cut his teeth on small market radio before moving on to television news and now with the Cabinet. Nonetheless, the conversation opened my eyes to the impact that PEP has in the counties that we all serve. Doug shared the compelling statistics about the steady decline in suicides since they launched their PEP campaign. He went on to share the positive impact that the health community is currently experiencing thanks in part to PEP messages about opioid addiction, elder abuse, diabetes prevention and adoption awareness. So the next time that you enter a PEP order, send a PEP invoice or hear one of the PEP ads that you’ve kindly donated, please remember that some of those messages are changing lives, if not saving them.
