GONE TOO SOON

Trevor Huff, longtime radio personality, musician, singer/songwriter and artist passed away unexpectedly this week. Trevor was well known in Eastern Kentucky having worked for over 30 years at WKCB in Hindman.

"Everyone in the music community in the mountains is at a loss today. Most of us in radio all knew him and enjoyed working with him. He helped so many businesses with his personality and sales ability. Truly a sad day in Eastern Kentucky", said Jamey Johnson, KBA Radio District 8 Director.

"Trevor was a vital member of the Killer B family for 30+ years, we are heartbroken from the news of his passing", said Randy Thompson, WKCB General Manager.

TORNADO RELIEF BENEFIT CONCERT
STATIONS ASKED TO CONSIDER AIRING PROMOS
Contemporary Christian music artist Steven Curtis Chapman and a few other Kentuckians, including Ricky Skaggs, will hold a Kentucky tornado relief benefit concert in Paducah on February 20th.

When he called up Skaggs and Stewart, Chapman said that they both immediately said yes and asked where and when I needed to be there.

"My heart has just been broken, for my friends and really family in Mayfield," said Chapman, a Paducah native. "Particularly as I grew up half my life in Mayfield as a boy because of my dad's music store, Chapman Music."

He said he has been praying for the folks back home and wanted to find a way to show them some love and support. The best thing he could do is get a few friends together to come to play some music and really raise spirits.

The concert will start at 7 pm at Heartland Church. General admission balcony tickets are $30. General admission floor tickets are $45 and VIP with signed poster are $100.

100% of the proceeds from the concert will go to Samaritan's Purse to help with the work they're doing for those affected by the December tornado.
Radio and television stations across the State are asked to consider airing concert promos to help our friends in Western Kentucky as they rebuild their communities.

JEFF SCHMIDT'S SALES TIP OF THE WEEK

RECENCY OF EXPERIENCE
Geoff is one of my best life-long friends. He’s also a corporate pilot. Last week he told me he had just finished five days of school. “School? What are you going to school for you’ve been doing this for 35 years?” I asked in my most “supportive” yet inquisitive tone. He told me they were changing the airplane he files from the Challenger to the Gulf Stream G550 and he had to go back to school to relearn the Gulfstream. Geoff had flown the G5 before, but because it has been 6 years, he was required to go back to school and get his recency of experience.

Isn’t it comforting to know that pilots are required to maintain their experience and training? Similarly, doctors, lawyers and many other professions are required to have continuing education as part of their careers and licenses.

Sadly, this is not true in sales. There is no law requirement for on-going training...

In Search of Learning Agility was a multiyear study done by the TR Clark Company. It was sponsored by the American Society of Training Development. The report is a comprehensive look at adult education and on-the-job competency.

According to In Search of Learning Agility, “There is no such thing as permanent competence, or a fully developed skill set in either individuals or organizations.”

Here are four things on-going training will do for you:

  1. Build your confidence. The more proficient and competent you become at something the more confidence you have in your ability.
  2. Creates a better work environment. People who are invested in doing and becoming their best build on each other. This creates a team spirit, improves moral, and job satisfaction.
  3. Boosts careers. By consistently learning you not only enhance your job security; you avail yourself to promotions, increases, and greater responsibility. All because you are constantly growing.
  4. Personal satisfaction. For the reasons I listed and many others, continually training in your field will make a major difference in your life. You will enjoy increased intellectual stimulation, satisfaction, and find greater reward in all that you do.

The great news is there is no shortage of resources to help. The KBA provides you exclusive access to RAB's Online Certifications, On-Demand Webinars (KBA login required) and Leadership MasterClass... which begins TODAY by the way! It's all complimentary with your active KBA membership.

I’m sure the passengers on the G5 that Geoff will be flying next week will appreciate that he went back to school and spent a week in the classroom and the simulator to relearn how to fly the plane safely and effectively.

The marketing world we operate in changes daily.  What do you want to learn this week?
