We all know that a broadcasters dedication and commitment to serve their local community is beyond compare. In this story, mix in a sheriff, a country star, some fancy video work by a radio guy, and you've got the perfect recipe to help a 12-year old girl battling leukemia.
K105 in Leitchfield shared that Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins was patrolling earlier this month when he was called to help a motorist in Caneyville. That motorist was none other than country star Elvie Shane.
Chaffins and Shane drove around to places where Shane was born and raised in Caneyville, singing karaoke to "Country Roads." The trip was recorded and aired on K105. The video also included a 30-minute interview with Shane, talking about everything from his first time being in the front seat of a police cruiser, to addiction.
Now the duo are raising money for Alexis, who has been fighting leukemia for several months. Chaffins said Alexis has received a bone marrow transplant and several other procedures since being diagnosed.
"Collaborating with Sheriff Chaffins and Elvie Shane to raise money for Alexis was a true honor. We were happy to contribute our video production services to creating something great that first and foremost helped a member of our community who is also a neighbor and friend of the family. But we also got a chance to help change other lives by helping share Elvie's story. I'm proud to be a broadcaster and cherish these community partnerships", said Mark Buckles, President of Heritage Media of Kentucky.
Chaffins said the video "serves as a catalyst" to raise money for Alexis to use however she wants.
