KBMS Dolphins,
“I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious.”
Albert Einstein

While so many exciting things have been happening in these last days of school, the highlight of this week was by far been the frog dissection happening in science classes for 7th and 8th graders. I am amazed by our students' fearlessness, curiosity and eagerness to learn!

Next week we venture to Boondocks to celebrate the accomplishments of our 8th graders and celebrate a fun day together before they continue on to high school. Thank you for all you are doing at home to help your students finish the year strong, and I look forward to celebrating with all of you as we continue to wrap up the year.

Celebrate - SB197 Passed

Thanks to all of our families, educators and school leaders that spent time talking to legislators in support of SB197. This zones throughout Colorado to work in partnership with their district in maintaining the innovative programs for our kids.

Beacon Ambassadors

We want to thank some of our Family Beacon Ambassadors that met with other families in Jeff Co that are interested in creating a similar model for their families. Also we rescheduled for our DPS Board Member President Xóchitl Gaytán and Superintendent Dr. Marrero. We will be meeting with our Beacon Family Ambassadors to discuss the impact from the executive limitations on Tuesday, May 31 from 5:00-6:30 pm at KMBS Library and virtual link through Zoom.
Academic Letters

We sent academic letters in Thursday folders. Please check with your child to ensure they shared the letter with you. Please note, continuation and summer school criteria will be sent out separately. The academic letter represents how they performed this school year.
Fundraisers
Eat at Chook on Monday, May 23 or Tuesday, May 24 and use the promo code SCHOOLS20. 20% of your purchase will be donated back to Beacon Network Schools!
Technology

The Students who are planning on leaving the district (DPS) or any 8th Grader who has a 3180 Dell Chromebook must return to the school on May 31, 2022. Time will be given in advisory that morning, students will be instructed to turn the device into the classroom cart if they fall into this criteria.
The Book Corner (both digital and physical)

As we are rapidly approaching the end of the year, we know that some students have lost or damaged Chromebooks but have not reported those problems to the Tech Team. It is important that we understand the condition of the laptops so that we can prepare for next year. Additionally, some students have traded devices or taken home loaner devices. Loaner computers must be returned. Also, if you are leaving the district, the Chromebook must be returned. We need your help to remedy these challenges, so looking around for extra devices, ensuring your child is using the one device checked out to them, and reporting damages is especially important right now.

We are no longer checking out library books for the 2021/22 school year. From now until the end of the year, we are trying to gather books checked out to students, locate lost books, and rectify money owed for lost or damaged books. Please help us by looking around the house and the car for lost books and reminding your student to pay if they owe something. The communication about overdue books and fees will be plentiful to both students and parents in our last couple of weeks.

We thank you for your support of our resources!
If your student’s Chromebook needs attention, please click on “Helpdesk” at the top of the Moodle page.

Summer Homework

There is summer homework for both Math and Literacy. Students will be given the information they need to complete this homework, but we’ll also provide links to documents. Please encourage your student to complete the homework so that they avoid a summer learning slump and so that their first gradebook grades for next school year are good ones!
Food Pantry
We are coming to the end of our Food Pantry distribution for the year. We are cleaning our food pantry starting this week and giving it to our families. We only have two more weeks to go. A quick reminder that our last day for our food distribution will be Thursday, June 2nd. Shout out to all our parents (moms) for coming to all and helping out from doing pallets to doing our food bags every Thursday. One more thing, we have our new fridge for our food pantry. This is a huge support to keep our food fresh throughout the year for our families.

If you would like to visit the food pantry, please come by or contact Mr. Boni, the school liaison at mr.sanchez@denverbeaconschools.org, 720-690-7964.
Enrichments
This week our GBMS and KBMS students in the female empowerment enrichment, Queenshipp, were invited to participate in a professional photo shoot, along with a group from the Denver Discovery School, at City Park for marketing materials for the organization and then to the first annual Queenshipp LeadHers Luncheon at Agave Shores in Five Points. Our young ladies heard from a variety of strong, successful women of color offering them nuggets of wisdom and advice for their future. Next week these students will venture out again to Pacific Western Bank for an excursion related to financial literacy, which they have been talking about in class. Thank you to Ms. Tanaka, the Queenshipp founder and instructor, for bringing your amazing programs to our students!
The Guitar and Rock Band enrichment students also had a special excursion to see the youth matinee of the musical Choir Boy, currently playing at the DCPA. Most of the students had not seen a professional theatrical production of this caliber, the story and music were impactful and profound, and we are so grateful to New Cottage Arts for arranging this opportunity for our students.
