Kepner Beacon Community,
"If there is no struggle, there is no progress."
Frederick Douglass

Next week Kepner Beacon Dolphins will have their first opportunity to show the results of all of their learning this year in math and literacy. We will be administering our second round of interim tests and I cannot wait to see all the incredible growth that our students have made in just a few short months. Please talk to your students about the test, the importance of giving 100%, and discuss how they are planning to meet their goals. Have a restful weekend KBMS, you are ready.

We want to thank H&C Real Estate for their generous donation to support our enrichments! Hugo Castillo is a former student of the principal of Dan Walsh and wanted to give back to the community. He plans to offer parent classes that will begin soon. Check out the website for more information.

Bell Schedule Change

We are moving away from our Block Schedules beginning Monday, November 15. The Monday & Thursday bell schedule will be mirrored on Tuesday and Wednesday. We have reevaluated as a network how block schedules were impacting our students, staff and school culture and asked for feedback from our teachers who overwhelmingly voted to omit the block schedules.

Enrichments

The Student Voice Committee is going strong! Here Mr. Chong is leading them through a team building exercise.

School Day Start and End Times

Please read this letter from our parent council members, Matt Sands (GBMS) and Karimme Quintana (KBMS) in support of our request for an earlier release.

We are requesting an earlier release so our students and staff are not getting home so late for next school year. If you want to learn more please visit our website for more information and you still have time to sign the petition that will be shared with the district. We already have 400 signatures requesting an equitable bell time. Every signature counts.

Thank you for supporting our staff, families and students.
To help support the health and well-being of our adolescent students, the DPS Board of Education has voted to move to later start times for all middle and high schools for the 2023-24 school year. This initiative will mean middle and high schools will start their day at 8:20 a.m. or later, and elementary students will start their day earlier. Please join us for one of the upcoming virtual community events to provide feedback, ask questions, and learn more about why Healthy Start Times will help our Denver students thrive.

Upcoming Denver Health SBHC Vaccination Clinics for Children Age 5 and Older

DPS will be holding some large-scale mass vaccination events for ages 5+. Vaccines will also be available at the Health Centers, Anschutz Children's Hospital, pediatrician offices, and most major pharmacies. More information about available vaccines can be found here. There are very limited appointments at many of these sites as everyone rushes to get their children vaccinated - we would anticipate there being more availability in the next 2-3 weeks.

The Food Pantry is now open at both KBMS and GBMS. Our pantry provides free non-perishable food items for families in need of assistance. Please reach out to our family liaison Boni Sanchez for any inquiries at mr.sanchez@denverbeaconschools.org.

Health & Safety Guidelines
All DPS schools are creating safe and welcoming environments for our students and staff. We are following the guidelines outlined by the health professionals and everyone that enters the buildings follows the DPS 5. We ask that if your child is showing signs and not feeling well, please keep them at home and notify the school. If we send students home, or if your child is exposed, the school nurse or COVID-19 coordinator will contact you. You can access more information on the DPS Website: www.dpsk12.org/coronavirus/ and our website: www.bnsk12.org/healthsafety
