RI's Clean Ups are Part of Something Bigger
Keep Blackstone Valley Beautiful, an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful (KAB), takes part yearly in KAB's Great American Cleanup. Each year all participating cleanups get tallied nationally @ KAB and now also internationally for the Great Global Clean Up @ Earth Day.org.
Your help locally is part of a bigger, greater effort. What we do here in Rhode Island truly matters to the health of our whole world.
Make this year the year you take part and make a difference.
You'll be surprised how even what you consider a small effort, can add up to big results when we all join in.
-
Pick up ONE piece of litter. Every piece really matters. If we leave even one piece on our streets, it ends up traveling into trees, brush, waterways and even our oceans where is becomes very hard, and even impossible, to ever remove.
We have around one million RI residents. If we each commit to pick up just one piece, we will clean ONE MILLION pieces of litter from our streets.
-
Spread out a little more & pick up all the litter on your property. Unfortunately we see litter by mailboxes, driveways or along homeowners' properties, and for some reason that litter is there for months, or even longer.
Cleaning just your property will tackle a huge amount of miles in our communities, and your property will look great!
-
While you're in the groove, adopt that empty lot near your property. Often litter never gets removed from these random disconnected vacant spots, unless someone like you comes along.
It is really hard for volunteer teams to get to these disconnected small areas, so we are asking for homeowners to spread out on their streets and see if an area by your home needs attention.
-
Now that you caught the bug -- join a clean up or host one of your own. Many events are scheduled for the Earth Day season, see below. Join one, but let's not stop there.
At KBVB we celebrate Earth Day all year long. Contact me when you're ready to organize a cleanup with your friends. You pick the spot, KBVB can help at your event, and the best part is another spot in our state becomes clean & green.

Locally we are working to Keep Blackstone Valley and all of Rhode Island Litter Free -- and we want, really need, you to help.
KBVB has started a listing with my cleanups, along with other organizations' litter cleanups happening in our state. Join one-- or join them all.
Stay in the know for upcoming clean ups, and learn about some of our wonderful environmental groups that are also tackling litter.
After the cleanups, we hope all those involved will share how much litter they collected. We are excited to see some totals for all our efforts.
To share your clean up results - submit this data form so we can add your event to our listing. Clean Up Results Form

Thank You --- To Our Tree Hugger Hosts
A big thank you to our local businesses sponsoring a meetup for our events. These businesses offer the fun after our event, while our KBVB volunteers work to end litter in our areas.
Want to be a Tree Hugger host? It's simple.
KBVB organizes the volunteers and event, the host offers some snacks, a beer or refreshments for the volunteers afterwards.
It's a fun way to partner together. KBVB cleans an area around your business, and the host gets recognized for being a "green business" Keeping Blackstone Valley Beautiful.

How do you feel Rhode Island is doing with litter in our communities? (choose one)
Doing really good. I do not see much litter.
Ok. I see some litter, but that is to be expected.
Really bad. I see litter everywhere.
I don't know. I haven't paid attention to the amount of litter.
KBVB wants to get to a Litter-Free RI, but we need everyone to help out. Will you?
Yes, of course. Ending litter is very important to me.
Possibly. What would I have to do?
No, litter is not my problem.
