Hello KCC SE Families!

I wanted to give you an update on testing.  FSA Math is mostly complete, we have a couple make-ups that will finish up the first of next week.  FSA ELA Reading will continue next week.  The first week of May we will have 5 th grade Science on May 2 nd and 3 rd.  Kindergarten through Second grade will be working on their NWEA benchmark assessments through May.

We will be at the Crawfish Festival Saturday, April 22 nd 11:00 am - 4:00pm. The event is being held at the Winthrop Town Center.  Stop by to say hello if you plan to attend the festival.

We will be finalizing our end of the year plans next week. Please look for more information regarding End of the Year Grade Level Awards Celebrations with dates and time for grades 1-4.  Our 5 th grade and Kindergarten graduation plans are well underway and it will be a day to remember for our students.

Monday, May 1 st through Friday, May 5 th is teacher appreciation week.  CPA will be selling carnations for teachers starting next week.  I would love to hear about a teacher or staff member who has made a difference for you and your child this school year.  Please send me an email ([email protected]) or drop a note at the front desk with the teacher/staff member's name, your child's name and what you appreciate most about them.

Have a safe and enjoyable weekend!

Volunteer

Just a reminder that you need to complete 20 hours per student enrolled by the end of the school year.

Attention KCC Southeast Parents!

A Uniform Store is currently being created and we would like you to be involved. The uniform store will function primarily as an exchange program and provide the opportunity to buy used uniforms.

Here are the upcoming opportunities.

- There are great opportunities to obtain volunteer hours. We need parents to help operate the store and help with donations. Yes, you may earn hours by laundering any uniforms that you want to donate and bringing them to the store. If you choose to donate or exchange, uniforms must be cleaned with no stains, tears, holes, or missing emblems.
- Parents may start donating uniforms for exchange or donation at the CPA meeting on May 2nd at 6:30pm. We also need 4 volunteers to help collect uniforms on this date.
- Starting May 3rd, there will be a uniform collection box available in the main office.
- On Saturday May 20th, we will open the store in the cafeteria for parents to come exchange and purchase uniforms. The store will be open from 10am to 1pm. Volunteers are needed.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Ms. Alberta at [email protected] or Nichole Sutphen at

Thank You!

NEHS

by: Sara Key

This past Saturday, April 15th, several NEHS members and I visited Tampa General Hospital to deliver Easter baskets to patients who are supported by 1 Voice Foundation. The organization's mission is to support children who have been diagnosed with cancer or an alternative debilitating disease, and their families, by connecting them with financial, emotional and educational care. NEHS members donated all of the baskets and basket items. Attached are pictures of the finished baskets and our experience delivering them to the hospital. It was a very touching experience to be a part of and I am very grateful to lead an organization that could bring joy to so many!

Volunteer Policy

Our Campus Parent Advisory Board Members have scheduled some great activities for our KCC Families! Professors and staff will also have opportunities for you to help around the school and in the classroom. In an effort to ensure parents take advantage of these opportunities to fulfill the 20 hour volunteer commitment per enrolled child, please remember the following:

  • You must have filled out an online application at https://community.sdhc.k12.fl.us/wps/portal/community/sdhc.home/sdhc.communitywelcome.
  • Parents are responsible for coordinating their own volunteer opportunities. Many are regularly advertised, but parents can also schedule, at their convenience, a time and activity that best fits their schedules.
  • Parents are responsible for logging their own volunteer hours at their respective campus.
  • You can only log time for hours of actual participation or time spent purchasing/delivering supplies.
  • Hours cannot be "donated," but parents can arrange to have other family members, friends or other parents volunteer on their behalf. In this instance, it will be the responsibility of the volunteer to ensure hours are properly logged for the student family in which hours are intended to benefit.
  • Parents that earn more than 20 hours cannot retroactively assign extra hours to another family.

Parents can also review the Parent Volunteerism information in the Student Parent Handbook.

*PLEASE NOTE:  We have received a partial list of approved volunteers.  Please call the front office at (813)699-4600 to check on your status.

Smove with KCC Southeast!

Welcome KCC Cougar Families!!!

There are so many exciting things planned for this 2016-17 school year, and we look forward to actively engaging each and every one of our families!

This year, you will see posters with QR codes all over the campus (or on our website) soliciting your involvement. For the 2016-17 school year, we launched a smile & move (SMOVE) engagement initiative and we need the help of our KCC families to make it a success in our efforts to provide you GREATER SERVICE! Below you will find the details of our campaign.  I encourage each of you to participate!

About our SMILE & MOVE Recognition Initiative

SMILE & MOVEis a wonderful way to remind ourselves and the people around us to be more positive and service-oriented with those we serve (our students, fellow colleagues, student families, community, etc.).

There are 5 ways to smile:
1. wake up
2. be thankful
3. be approachable
4. complain less
5. smile more

And 4 ways to move:
1. start early and go long
2. exceed expectations
3. have a sense of urgencybe resourceful and resilient

Thats how we SMOVE!

You trust us with the education of your children, and we trust your opinion! When you see a professor or another staff member going above and beyond let us know they are SMOVIN'! Scan the QR Code located around the campus or on our website or go to:
https://goo.gl/forms/cL6d14nr7D1gT8Tf2
 and submit your recognition!

When parents get and stay involved in their child's education, great things happen.  So, we want each of you to get involved in our SMOVE campaign this year!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at:

Thank you!

Board of Directors

 AGENDA

- The Board agenda is set by the Board and is prepared, posted and distributed at least one (1) week before the meeting.  At any time before the meeting, a parent, guardian or a member of the Board can request to add an item to the agenda by contacting either the Secretary or the Board President.

The link for requesting an item to be added to the Board agenda is  http://apps.kidscc.org/view.php?id=51501 The final agenda is approved at the start of the Board meeting.  Parents and guardians are also allowed to introduce new items or concerns during the time of Floor Discussions and Announcements.  Although the Board may not comment on the items introduced at that time, they can decide to act on it in a future meeting.

PUBLIC COMMENT - The Board of Directors welcomes participation in meetings. The public is welcome to comment on matters appearing on the agenda at the time they are called. The public is also welcome to comment on matters, which are not on the agenda when the President calls for "Public Input for the Good of the District." This time is provided for the public to introduce any topic within the District's jurisdiction. Because these are non-agenda matters, generally no discussion or comment by the Board should be expected except to properly refer the matter for review as appropriate, but no action will be taken at this meeting. Public Comment will be limited to five minutes per speaker. If you wish to speak, please step up to the podium at the appropriate time & begin by stating your name & address.

CONSENT ITEMS - All items are approved by a single action. There will be no separate discussion of those items unless an item is removed at the request of any Director or member of the public. Those items removed will be considered at the end of the consent agenda or be placed on the action agenda for the next meeting.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION AND COMPLAINTS

The ultimate purpose of our internal complaint procedure is to encourage the healthy growth and development of Kid's Community College.  Conflict is often a part of any organization and may arise in any community. An effective process for resolving conflict is therefore both consistent with the vision and mission of KCC, and an essential component of the communication model that our school has adopted.  KCC recognizes that effective communication is paramount in effective conflict resolution and therefore strongly encourages students, parents, associates and the community to review and follow our conflict resolution process, which is found here:

KCC Conflict Resolution.
