2019 KCHP Spring Meeting Summary
|
|
The KCHP Annual Spring Meeting was held on April 5 -6
th
at The Oread in Lawrence, KS. It was a huge success with 150 attendees, up 30% from 2017. The meeting offered networking and 47 hours of continuing education (CE) for pharmacists and technicians, and for the first time, the poster session was redeemable for CE.
Keynote speaker, Paul Gomez, offered valuable information on prioritizing your time and living with intention. He offered multiple useful tips on how to manage personal and professional time to achieve goals, while making time for what is most important. Many hot topics were discussed in presentations and new networking sessions. Cannabidiol, online pharmacies, USP implementation, and lean leadership were some of the operations topics discussed. Professional development topics included burnout, resiliency, and examining implicit biases. A variety of clinical topics from content experts were available and well attended.
The KCHP Foundation offered technician registration for hospitals who submitted a silent auction basket. Nine baskets were submitted, raising over $1000 for the foundation! The tradition of a Friday Night KCHP Foundation Event was held at Lawrence Beer Company. The event was a fantastic opportunity to catch up with colleagues while raising funds to support research and education throughout the state.
KCHP looks forward acknowledging the clinical success of our members at the Spring Meeting. To formally recognize pharmacy innovation, KCHP created the First Annual Innovative Practice Award. The four finalists presented their projects during the Awards Luncheon, and then The KCHP Foundation was pleased to present an award to this year’s finalist, Brian Gilbert for his efforts on the Pharmacoeconomic Impact of an Alternative Workflow Process for Stroke.
AM J Emerg Med. 2019 Feb; 37(2): 294-297.
The poster session helped our colleagues learn from 24 projects across the state! Special thanks to the presenters and their advisors! The following awards were given for excellent poster presentations:
- Original Research: Connor Flanagin from Olathe Health for the poster, 'Evaluation of Pharmacy Managed Heart Failure Education Program'.
- Research in Progress: Melissa Norton from Ascension Via Christi for her poster titled, 'Impact of physician-pharmacist collaboration for disease state management on patient outcomes'.
- Student: Mary Thorne from The University of Kansas Health System for her poster, 'Evaluation of IV NAC for treatment of acetaminophen and non-acetaminophen hepatotoxicity'
