COMPANIONING EVENTS

April's celebrations of Crime Victims' Rights month took KCIT to Harrisburg for the Crime Victims' Rights Rally and PACASA's conference, then to Langhorne for the NOVA Candlelight Tribute.

KCIT provided companioning at all three, and tabling at two.

CRIME VICTIMS' RIGHTS RALLY

KCIT attended the Crime Victims' Rights Rally at the State Capitol building, providing both companioning for those attending and tabling to connect to other organizations and providers. The theme this year was Kinship, focused on connections across victims, services, and providers.

KCIT Volunteer Melany Nelson spoke to the crowd with her usual passion, moving the attendees. A large number of KCIT volunteers were in attendance, leading to reunions, meetings, and connection.

NOVA CANDLELIGHT TRIBUTE

KCIT provided companioning for NOVA's Candlelight Tribute this April as victims and survivors shared their stories. Guests were moved by the experiences shared and many attendees reached out for support and connection with each other and the speakers.

The Tribute took place in Core Creek Park, at NOVA's Commemorative Arbor. This space is dedicated to the Crime Victims of Bucks County and Their Families, and is a place for reflection, dedication, and life celebration.

KCIT VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

In case you missed it- we proudly spotlighted Lisa Ryan this June in our ongoing series. Without our volunteers we would not be able to reach Pennsylvanians in need.

TRAINING UPDATES

HYBRID GCI TRAINING JUNE 2025

KCIT conducted our second GCI Training with the final session in person hosted by PCCD in Harrisburg. The hybrid model has been valuable for participants as they get to practice an intervention face to face and feel better prepared for a deployment or to offer support to individuals through their work.

Here are a few comments from participants regarding improvements and the in-person practice session:

“Very helpful. I think the practice should always be in person.”

“…the last training with the in person was very well done, I like how the groups were created and separated so I thought it was very impactful.”

“I think that the in-person session allowed me to see my own areas of growth and also where I can excel in facilitation. It helped me to not be so scared to do the group.”

“More interactive sessions, such as the one at the end – with us actually facilitating and acting as scribe.”

The KCIT team would like to thank the three agencies that have helped to make the in-person sessions possible: The Bucks County Intermediate Unit, PCCD, the Citizens’ Ambulance Services – West Pike Station with the help of the Alice Paul House. The KCIT team will begin looking for 2026 locations, if anyone knows of a location in their area that may be willing to host us, please contact Beth at beth.coutts@novabucks.org.

UPCOMING

Learn the Group Crisis Intervention Model

to respond to community trauma.

During a GCI a group is led by a facilitator through a series of questions using time progression—starting in the past, present, and then future. Questions aim to help participants sort through their experience of the event, sensory impact, reactions, and what they continue to hold as a result of the trauma. The group process assists in restoring connection and the feeling that “I am not alone” in my suffering. It is important to understand that a GCI is not therapy and is a one-time intervention.

Must attend all sessions to receive KCIT Certification.

The final session on September 29th, 2025, is in-person in Indiana County.
