The Valley Fever Institute at Kern Medical is pleased to invite you to join our Infectious Disease team as they discuss the shared primary symptoms between Coccidioidomycosis, COVID-19, and Influenza, as well as the challenges in assessing the clinical, diagnostic, and radiographic differences of this triple threat.
This virtual educational event is scheduled for Friday, September 25th at Noon. The hour-long event will offer 1 CME credit to participating physicians.

AB 890 (Wood) is a dangerous bill that would undermine physician-led care and could create a lower tier of care for low-income patients. This bill passed the Legislature on the final night of this year’s legislative session and will await action from Governor Newsom this month.
Physicians are urged to contact the Governor and ask him to protect patient safety and VETO AB 890.

Self-insured or Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) governed plans have traditionally raised unique problems for physicians.
With a typical insurance product, the employer pays a premium to the insurance carrier or health plan, and that entity assumes the financial risk for claims incurred. Under a self-insured ERISA plan, the employer typically leases a large payor’s provider network and discounted reimbursement rates, but the employer assumes the actual risk of claims incurred. CMS indicates it will withdraw controversial Medicaid Fiscal Accountability rule |
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Seema Verma, M.D., announced this week the agency would be withdrawing its proposed Medicaid Fiscal Accountability Rule, which would have cut state and federal Medicaid funding by as much as 50% in all 50 states. Dr. Verma said in a tweet that CMS would be withdrawing the proposal due to concerns raised by state and provider partners about "potential unintended consequences" of the proposed rule, which require further study. It is unclear whether the agency will be abandoning the proposal in its entirety, or if CMS will move forward in the future with some sort of modified “fiscal accountability” regulation after a study. Anthem PPO added to specialty medication policy |
Anthem Blue Cross recently notified physicians that effective December 2, 2020, it will expand its specialty medication policy to also apply to its commercial PPO and EPO plans. The new PPO policy, effective for dates of service on or after December 1, 2020, mirrors policy previously implemented for Anthem’s commercial HMO and Medi-Cal managed care plans and will require that certain specialty pharmacy medications administered in the office or outpatient hospital setting be obtained exclusively through CVS Specialty pharmacy. The California Medical Association (CMA) is severely troubled by the recent resignations of county public health officers in Placer and Humboldt counties.
