Dear Kern County Healthcare Provider:
To date, there have been no confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19, formerly 2019-nCoV) in Kern County. Healthcare providers should remain prepared to assess and care for potential COVID-19 patients. There continue to be more cas
es identified in California and the United States. Recently, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported cases of community-based transmission, as well as the first COVID-19 case identified in a healthcare worker in the United States.
To ensure your facility is fully prepared to respond to COVID-19, please disseminate pertinent information to all staff, including non-medical/non-clinical staff. Previous bulletins regarding COVID-19 include 2019 Novel Coronavirus Guidance for Healthcare Providers and Additional Guidance for Healthcare Providers and FAQs.

CMA Legislative Advocacy Day
|
The California Medical Association (CMA) will host its 46th Annual Legislative Advocacy Day on the Capitol Lawn on Tuesday, April 14. We will not be offering a standard program as in the past; instead, the day will be dedicated to our advocacy efforts. County medical societies are still encouraged to schedule and set up Capitol meetings. CMA will provide an advance webinar on priority legislation, pass out materials the day of and serve lunch to all attendees.

Medical Board of California Appoints New Executive Director

The Medical Board of California (Board) has appointed William J. Prasifka as its new executive director. A native of California, Prasifka comes to the Board from the Medical Council of Ireland, where he has served as its chief executive officer (CEO) for the past four years. Prasifka will officially start his position with the Board in June.
