Luke 2:7 - Revised Standard Version
And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

When I reflect upon Luke 2:7, I often thought of an Innkeeper who lacked the grace and sympathy to care for a pregnant soon to be mother.  I thought that this was a classic example of terrible customer service.  I was empathetic to Mary and Joseph and was convinced that this was an act of injustice. However, nothing in this scripture suggests this to be true.  It is possible that the Innkeeper showed tremendous grace, seeking a way that he can still care for Mary and Joseph when he had no room in his own home. Instead of denying Joseph, Mary, and soon to be baby Jesus, the Innkeeper chose to find a way to let Jesus in.
As we seek to be a discipleship school, it is my prayer that, in partnership with both home and church, we can help students learn to not only let Jesus in but to learn to encounter Jesus over every square inch of the world.  I pray that we can find ways to do this in the classroom, in India, on the basketball court, and in our fine-arts programs.  I hope soon we can offer more applied skills programs, helping students learn more about the big plans that God has for them.  I hope we continue to seek to be a community where all students feel they belong and that students desire Jesus more when they leave in grade 12 than when they enter in kindergarten. I am thankful that students can learn about their God-given potential at KCS.
During the Christmas Season, I am prayerful that our students find new ways to let Jesus in their hearts, no matter how busy and impossible it may seem at times.  I love that we are a school that strives to do everything in, through, for, and with Christ.
Merry Christmas, my friends.
