At KC Shepherd’s Center, we are committed to ensuring older adults have access to programs that protect their financial security. Jackson County now offers a new Senior Property Tax Credit Program—commonly called the Senior Freeze—to help seniors remain in their homes as property values rise.
To assist residents, Jackson County is hosting a series of free public workshops throughout May and June to guide applicants through the process.
Who is eligible?
- Must be age 62 or older by January 1, 2024
- Must own and occupy their home as their primary residence
- Must pay real estate property taxes to Jackson County, Missouri
There are no income limits. If you meet the age and residency requirements, you are encouraged to apply.
What does the Senior Freeze do?
If approved, your property tax assessment will be frozen at the previous year’s assessed value. This is intended to protect homeowners from future property tax increases.
Application deadline: June 30, 2025
Applications submitted after this date to be considered for the 2025 tax year.
Attend a workshop
In-person workshops will walk applicants through the process and answer any questions. These events are open to the public and designed to make the process as accessible as possible.
