Introducing Father Paul Sappington, ordained in KCSJ on June 25
When asked about his hopes or dreams as a priest, Paul said, “I hope to continually give my life over to God to be his instrument in bringing people into his kingdom. Whatever way God wills for that to take place, I hope to be available.”
Bishop Johnston has made the following assignment effective July 1, 2022:
Rev. Paul Sappington is appointed Chaplain to St. Michael the Archangel High School, Lee’s Summit, with residence at St. Thomas More Parish Rectory, and will assist with parochial liturgies on Sundays at St. Thomas More and St. Catherine of Siena Parishes, Kansas City.

St. Louis Catholic Church completes its mission as a parish with final Mass on June 26
Following a nine month pastoral planning effort in partnership with parish leaders and parishioners in deaneries 1, 2 and 11, it was determined that St. Louis Parish in Kansas City will close on June 30, 2022 and merge with St. Therese Little Flower Parish. Bishop Johnston celebrated the final Mass at St. Louis Parish on Sunday, June 26 at 10 a.m. followed by a reception in the parish hall.

National Eucharistic Revival | How to participate
The Bishops of the United States are calling for a three-year grassroots revival of devotion and belief in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. The three-year initiative will culminate in the first National Eucharistic Congress in the United States in almost fifty years, where almost a hundred thousand Catholics will join together in Indianapolis for a once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage toward the “source and summit” of our Catholic faith.

Resources for a post-decision world
The U.S. Supreme Court announced on Friday, June 25 its ruling on the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, shifting all decisions regarding abortion access to the individual states. This ends federal protection of abortion access under Roe v. Wade.

Journey to Bethany announces new dates for survivor gatherings
Inspired by victims and survivors, Journey to Bethany has established a monthly gathering. This is a safe, welcoming space where survivors can connect with those who share similar experiences. At each gathering we present an activity and tools to help foster peace, hope and healing. You are welcome on any third Tuesday and can invite a support person to join you if needed. You may share or contribute as much or as little as is comfortable for you.

St. John Francis Regis Parish announces first annual St. Regis Cup men's soccer tourney
Attention clergy and lay people in the diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph: Gather your friends and fellow parishioners and form your team to compete in the first annual St. Regis Cup men's soccer tournament. The goal is to unite parish communities in a friendly way and have the opportunity to play, pray, and know each other more deeply.
July 17 & 24 and August 7 & 14
Teams will play in three different age groups:
Adults 18+
Teens 12-17
Kids 7-11
Games will be played by elimination depending on the number of parishes registered until there is a champion. Game times will depend on the teams schedules.
Trophies will be given to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places!
