Remembering Emily Theresa Lee

It is with great sorrow that the Sisters in Jesus the Lord announce that Emily Theresa Lee, a member of our community as Sr. Maria Damiana from May 31, 2007 until September 21, 2022, died unexpectedly in the early hours of Sunday, November 13, 2022. She was in San Francisco, California, living temporarily with her brother, Robert, and his family.

Emily has been laid to rest in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in San Francisco. “Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace.”

You are invited to attend a memorial Mass for Emily’s soul at 8 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 519 N. 10th St., Saint Joseph, Mo., followed by breakfast. In addition, a 10:30 a.m. Rosary and 11 a.m. Memorial Mass on Friday, December 9, 2022 will be held at Coronation of Our Lady Parish, 13000 Bennington Ave in Grandview, Mo., with a luncheon to follow (RSVP (816) 761-8811).

Trauma Awareness During the Holidays

For survivors of trauma, including clergy sexual abuse, there is a lot going on neurobiologically that can make seemingly joyous occasions feel overwhelming and unsafe. This might result in behaviors that seem irritating or counter to the joy of the season. We encourage you to be aware that the people, events, sounds and smells of the holidays may be a trigger for survivors.

If there is a survivor you love and care for, especially if that survivor is yourself, we hope that you’ll find the resources through Journey to Bethany helpful.

If you need support, even if you don’t know what to say, we’re here to help at 816-683-8999 or [email protected].
