Everyone Deserves to Be Safe at Home!
The Safe at Home program allows survivors of domestic violence and other crimes to hide their addresses on state and local records. We recently expanded the program to allow participants to enroll without obtaining a protective order – often a major barrier preventing victims from getting help.

The program has 3 main functions:
1) Address Substitution: Participants use the Secretary of State’s address in lieu of their own all publicly available records.
2) Mail Forwarding: Participants mail is sent to the Secretary of State’s office and then forwarded to their confidential records.
3) Voter Registration: Participants are able to have their addresses masked on voter records and can vote by mail-in absentee ballots.

Prior to going into effect in July of this year, the program only applied to voter records and wasn’t widely utilized (we had just 12 participants in the program). Something unique about our program is it offers reciprocity to people who move to Kentucky and were enrolled in an address confidentiality program in their home state.

More information can be found about the program here

This could’ve been prevented with:
  • A Security Risk Assessment
  • Risk Management Plan
  • HIPAA Policies and Procedures
  • HIPAA and Security Training

Don’t let employee snooping cost your practice!
If your business doesn’t have a strong HIPAA program in place, you run the risk of following in Yakima’s footsteps. Read more about the fine here.
