Keep Denton Beautiful, Inc. hosted its annual appreciation event to thank donors, sponsors, supporters, and volunteers for their contributions to the organization over the past year. More than 150 KDB supporters came out to South Lakes Park to enjoy the food and festivities at KDB's BBQ Bash. The event featured free burgers and hot dogs grilled up by First United Bank, fixin's provided by Cartwright's Ranch House, and McAlister's Deli provided their famous tea.

KDB Program Manager Julie Anderson presented KDB's annual awards to volunteers and groups that went above and beyond to assist KDB's mission.

Tree Rebate Program is NOW OPEN! rebates
Now accepting Tree Rebates through May 2019! The  Tree Rebate Program  - one of six programs offered through the  Denton Tree Initiative  - offers a $50 utility bill credit when you plant a qualifying tree  within the Denton city limits between Oct. 1, 2018 and May 1, 2019.
Over the next several months, KDB will introduce you to our hardworking Board of Directors. This month, meet  KDB Treasurer Christa Crowe.
Name, KDB title: Christa Crowe, KDB Treasurer
Occupation: Property Standards Manager
Years active with KDB:  Since 2005 at least
Years in Denton:  Most of my life, but most recently for the past 21 years.
Favorite KDB event: Tree Giveaway. Obviously. Trees (my favorite) + Meet Awesome Denton Residents Who Want to Plant Trees (my other favorite) = BEST KDB EVENT
Top 3 favorites things:  Gardening, volunteering, time with friends & family.
Dogs or cats? Dogs
Favorite holiday or celebration: Fourth of July. Celebrating our democratic ideals and enjoying fireworks with friends and neighbors is always great. I even like the parts that aren't great, like sweltering temperatures or other people's questionable music selections.
Favorite TV show or movie: Old school John Candy comedies from the 80s or any comedy from the 1980s that features vehicles with faux wood paneling.
Favorite local spot: The Emily Fowler Central Library
Why should someone support KDB?  Everyone wants to live in a clean and beautiful city. KDB has helped make Denton a cleaner and more beautiful city for more than 30 years with help from thousands of residents of all ages, volunteer groups, and business supporters. The best part is that the good work done in any one corner of Denton elevates the quality of life for the entire city. Opportunities abound and it's really easy to get involved! Call us with your great ideas, volunteer your time or talents on one of our many projects (Any video editors out there?) or support our efforts by becoming a KDB member or business sponsor.

305 Matthew Ave. - Melissa and Tracey Matthews

Melissa and Tracey Matthews love outdoor spaces. They consider themselves rookie gardeners with an earthy and simple style. Their yard features native flowers that mix color, texture, and height. Different varieties of river rocks and boulders compliment the flora in this beautiful yard.

919 Congress St. - Susan Phillips

The plants in Susan's yard include non-native as well as native such as Salvia, Cannas, Lantana, Autumn Sage, bushes and trees. The homeowners use mulch to maintain cooler temperatures of the soil and cut down weeds in the yard. The homeowners built a beautiful dry stack rock wall to greet neighbors and friends who may visit. They found the rocks at a nearby home being torn down. A bird bath offers water to the birds and butterflies.

1001 Mack Pl. - Jessica Cuzins

This lovely home  sits on a corner-lot featuring a wrap-around porch adorned with beautiful ferns, begonias, and splashes of festive fall decor. In front of the house, a charming children's play-area, bounded by a picket fence, is prominently displayed beside a gleaming pathway to the front door. The house is skirted by attractive flower beds  including roses in bloom topped with protective mulch. The lush, green lawn is well manicured and fertilized with Dyno Dirt in the spring.

1426 Churchill Dr. - Judy Smith

The yard of longtime resident and KDB supporter, Judy Smith (of Rose Costumes), shows what can be done with creativity. Using hardscape items like rock, wood and found items, she has made this yard very appealing. Many neighbors took notice and have followed this example, making for an attractive group of homes.

2104 Bowling Green - Gary Truitt

Gary Truitt is a Texas Master Gardener and longtime Denton resident and KDB member. His landscaping includes Yaupon Holly, with low water consumption, featured in the front yard with additional species including Lantana, Liriope, Hawthorns, and Altheas. Additionally, Gary has a 157-year-old American Elm called Admiral Ellum in his backyard.
