In February 2021, as we highlighted Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, KEEP received an email from one of our newsletter readers, a third grade teacher: “February is Black History Month! It is the shortest month of the year already... do we have to have it be anything else? Couldn't it be 'Examples of Black Excellence in Energy Education' for a focus for this month instead?”
That email, along with the moment we were living in, helped motivate KEEP to examine ways to prioritize Black and Brown voices and experiences in our lessons, our outreach, and how we do our everyday work. It is a work-in-progress, but one of our first steps was to develop a lesson that can be used any time of the year to guide students to discover several Black leaders in energy.
We invite all of our readers to explore this lesson, incorporate all or part of it in your teaching, and give us feedback.
