MARCH 2018

Welcome to Key Insights Newsletter
MARCH 2018 Edition!!!

I have the honor of being the 2018 Chair of the Key Biscayne Chamber of Commerce so my Newsletter will focus more on Key Biscayne events and Key Biscayne Chamber of Commerce Business promotion. I am very passionate about supporting and advocating for our local businesses. We are blessed to live on an Island with world class amenities, restaurants and merchants.

As a life-long resident and Realtor on Key Biscayne, I love sharing upcoming events and Interesting activities offered around our community for the residents and frequent visitors of our Island  Paradise.

My father, Federico Padovan, moved our family (including grandparents) to Key Biscayne in 1973. I was raised  on the Island and left briefly to earn a BFA degree at NYU. But my heart was always here so I returned to my Island Paradise home where I am raising 4th generation Key Biscayners with my husband Donnie Hall.

To read more about me,
We also have three lovely contributors sharing their insights as well! Please see their monthly articles at the bottom of each newsletter.
I want to sincerely THANK all of you for the wonderful feedback and interest in participating in our Newsletter
over the  last 2 years!!!

March is Women's History Month!
The large majority of ancient cultures were patriarchal, and they practiced customs that held women in low  esteem and limited their freedom. Through the centuries, many courageous women have stepped forward to fight inequality and to champion causes for the benefit of society. Their work to break down barriers has allowed future generations of women to pass through without resistance.
Women's History Month honors these women.
The women's movement of the 1960s put the spotlight on women's issues and made it clear that historical contributions by women had been completely discounted. As historian and activist Gerda Lerner said in 1986, "When I started working on women's history about thirty years ago, the field did not exist. People didn't think that women had a history worth knowing." Lerner's pioneering work has been responsible for the introduction of Women's Studies programs into the university education system, and remarkable contributions by amazing women are now documented as part of history.

Some suggestions for individual celebrations of Women's History Month include:
  • Read a biography about a female pioneer, perhaps Amelia Earhart, one of the first ladies of aviation, paving the way for women in the flight industry
  • Watch a film about women's movement origins and suffragettes Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony
  • Volunteer or make a donation to an organisation for women's education
  • Post a link about your most-admired woman in history on Facebook
In 1975, the UN officially recognized International Women's Day. Women's History Week is a progression of that, and Women's History Month is a further extension. Throughout the month, various community events, internet blog series, television presentations and entertainment specials will be staged to look back on women's achievements, to celebrate the progress made by women around the world, and to remember that there is still work to be done.

Local performers and internationally famous musicians take the stage to dancing crowds filled with everyone from families to veterans of the party scene.
The event is free, and there is plenty of extra fun to indulge in, including dozens of food stands and artisanal vendors. The event takes place every year on the weekend before the main event, the Calle Ocho Festival.
Carnaval On The Mile is a family friendly ambiance, and is mostly local Coral Gables residents and their families who are regulars at the surrounding mom-and-pop cafes and restaurants, boutiques and book stores. Local restaurants set up shop in booths along the streets and you can get a taste of local favorites from high-end restaurants to Cuban ice cream. Bacardi and Heineken have a presence and it's all in all a great time for all ages.

Parenting University's Crash Course on Parenting
Humans have done remarkable things over the course of recorded history. We've looked at the world and searched for ways to make our lives more comfortable and rewarding. We've grown in complexity, and we've amassed a great deal of knowledge. For society to work efficiently and in an ordered way, skills must be mastered. We are not born knowing these things, so we must be taught. We will learn, practice and master these skills. From masonry to architectural design. From a school tutor to a College professor. From crossing guard to a special forces soldier. From a rickshaw driver to a commercial pilot. From a legal aid to a partner in a law firm. From a medical assistant to a neurological surgeon. From busing tables to owning a restaurant. So many of the things that we do, no matter at what level, will require some type of education, training and supervision. What about the job of Parenting?
Of all jobs in the world, there's none more important than that of being a parent. And while there are schools, universities, academies, training facilities, etc. for most occupations to prepare us for the task we will perform, one thing we humans have overlooked is what we do to develop parents.
Parents want the best for their children. They will search for the best in everything for them, yet when it comes to the job of parenting we don't seek the best. We settle for what we know. Which as it turns out, is not very much. Our ignorance becomes apparent to us as we begin raising our children and we find ourselves, emotionally exhausted from parenthood. We don't tend to look for help until things have reached a boiling point, and then we seek quick solutions. Generally, they are just Bandaid and symptom relief ideas that lack sustainability. This reality is happening all over the world, and we mostly look the other way whenever possible, wishing it away. Imagine if we used this strategy with any other job. If we worked without training, and turned away from challenges. We'd be fast unemployed. What about the job of parenting?
This course is designed to give parents the foundational understanding of humans and child development. It offers frameworks and principles with actions that can be immediately taken to get the results parents are looking for in the short and long term. We will take a look at
  • what we know
  • how we currently operate
  • address reality
  • how the mind works
  • how children function
  • at effective parenting plans
  • communication and discipline techniques
  • And so much more...
This information is science based and the concepts are derived from child development specialist like;
  • Jean Piaget
  • Erik Erikson
  • Robert Kegan
  • Morris Massey
  • Daniel J. Siegel M.D.
  • Tina Payne Bryson, Ph.D.
  • Gary Chapman Ph.D.
  • Ross Campbell Ph.D.
  • and Star Family Coaching
If you are struggling as a parent, you are in good company; most parents' biggest secret is this struggle, then this course is exactly what you need. Parenthood doesn't need to feel horrible. It doesn't need to weigh you down and age you. It can be every bit as wonderful as you once imagined it to be and more. All you need is knowledge and a plan. This course will give you both and much more. Become an Empowered Parent.

"...With Prince's death I thought of a SUPERSTAR that I DID indeed have to privilege to not only meet, but also sell her a beautiful condo in Aventura.
The only problem is that, at the time, I did not know who she was..."

Our teens across the nation are becoming agents of change in response to the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. We learn so much when we actually listen to our younger generation. They are able to analyze situations and brainstorm solutions. And as parents, we know they do not take "no" very easily. They express new ideas and are not complacent in their actions. Hopefully now, lawmakers will begin to listen to their ideas.
Besides listening to their passionate ideas of reform, listen and observe any signs of stress or anxiety from the trauma they experienced. Even the students who do not go to that school can experience emotional distress from this tragedy. They may speak about their fears, anxieties, and sadness. They may be irritable, angry, withdrawn or even lack interest in things they used to enjoy. They may have difficulty with sleep and concentration, and even experience nightmares or flashbacks. They may want to avoid school, news, or anything associated with this tragedy. If you know of a teen (or anybody) who is exhibiting any of these feelings or symptoms, please refer them to a psychologist. If a referral is needed, contact me at, and I will help find an appropriate referral.

Let it Go and Let it Flow

So often we chew on something for a long time trying to control the circumstances for what we believe will be a favorable outcome. We get frustrated and think that perhaps we need to try harder and focus on it even more. Well if you you've done all you can do to no avail, then it may be time to let it go and let it flow.
Don't mistake this art of surrender as a way of giving up. Quite the opposite. Surrendering to the universe means having the faith to allow life to perform the magic we never could have imagined. Hold the intention of your anticipated result but be wise enough to allow faith to carry you through. Be humble enough to listen to the answers being whispered to you. How do I hear the whispers, you ask? These whispers are called your intuition. Stop blocking it out.
When all else, and by that I mean action, fails then it's time to let go and let God, as the saying goes. Set your goal. Ask the universe for help. Listen to the nudging within. Whatever your wish is, the end result is the same. In way or another you believe you will be happier in the attainment of your objective. In its infinite wisdom, the universe will know a more favorable path to get you there.

Invest Wisely in Your Business

Working with so many women entrepreneurs through the arms of Femfessionals, I hear a lot of personal stories of women being burned by "business coaches". These jaded stories all have common threads of high pressured group settings, hitting the core of pain during the pitch and often a free way to enter into their world so they can solve your problems and make you a millionaire. There are amazing business coaches out there but to find the perfect fit for you, you need to dig a bit deeper beyond the glitz and glamour of their pitch and their social media shenanigans.

A business coach and mentor can keep you on track to your vision, bring clarity in those steps and serve as a point of accountability. Business coaches can even assist with key introductions and personal advice. Here are some things to help you while searching for the perfect business coach for your business.

Their "Successful" Pitch: It starts with bringing up your pain, your struggles and your daily challenges in a vague sort of way. It's often followed by their promise to make it all go away after "investing" in their program. While it's great to invest in yourself and in a great business coach, the best business coaches aren't singing their own praises. Their reputation, client feedback and personal business successes should illustrate their awesomeness. Look beyond the pitch to the core of their work.

Fluff or Real: In a world of purchasing followers and creating an image not based accurately on truth, reputations are still best based on feedback. Look for testimonials, ask colleagues and look beyond their Instagram photos. Anything can look grand in an image, the real work is through feedback of people you trust and admire.

Their Personal Success: The streams of "I will make you a millionaire, if you purchase my coaching" is constantly appearing through sponsored feeds and posts. What have they personally created? When you dig deep, some haven't created anything outside of their business coaching program. I have personally known of situations where women hired coaches tinkering on the levels of poverty or ones that have never launched a business successfully. If they just coach but have no hands on personal business successes that resemble your vision in grand ways, they may not be a great fit for you and your business.

Go with your Gut: Take the time to research various coaches, not just the ones screaming marketing in your face. Research, review and at the end of the process go with your gut. Which Business Coach connects with you on a deeper level? Which one resonates with your current place and the vision you have for your future? Your gut will know which one is the best for you.

Your Circle: Look at your circle of friends and colleagues and reach out to those you admire and respect most. Ask them how they got to where they are now, who helped them, tips they have to share with you. Reach out to those already living your future dream of business and research how they got there [their Coach]. Use their path of success as a guided road to walk for your business as well.

It does take a village of support to get you to the next level of business. It's often achieved through a support system of friends, mentors, coaches and resources you find along the way. Implement a series of systems that fit your vision and take the time to get to know your Business Coach prior to hiring. It may be the most money you invest in your business this year. Be sure it's invested wisely to help you and your business grow successfully.

We invite you to visit  daily for the best advice and inspiration. Be sure to connect with your local FemCity community and attend one of our FEM Marketplaces, too [a.k.a. Girls' Night Out Events]. We know firsthand what it's like to be in business for yourself, and the kinds of bumps you might encounter along the way. FemCity was specifically designed to make your journey less turbulent and to help you "have it all" (insert your own definition here).
