Worship in the Park

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” -Psalm 19:1

The sunsets the past few days have been beautiful, and the full moon last night lit up our house from the outside! God’s handiwork in the world around us continually amazes me. I love that the heavens declare God’s glory, so let’s enjoy that experience together... outside… in worship… this Sunday!

Please join us at Worship in the Park this week at 11am at the Union St. Grange Park in Kennewick (near the Kennewick Library). Bring your lawn chairs or picnic blankets and we will sing God’s praises along with the birds. It is also a very non-threatening way to invite a friend or neighbor or co-worker to join you in worship. For those people who are afraid that the building might fall down if they set foot inside… good news! They don’t have to set foot inside the building. We’ll be outside this week! (And also, please reassure them that the building would NOT fall down were they to set foot inside of it!)

We will NOT have our regular Christian Education classes at 9:45 am this week.

Glorious God, thank you for the beauty of nature. Thank you for this congregation and the opportunity we have to invite someone to join us in worship this Sunday. Give us your vision for whom you are calling to share in worship in the park with us. Give us courage to invite and bring them along with us to worship in the Park this Sunday. Amen.

~Rev. Hanna Peterson Shearer

Please bring your lawn chair!

“Hospitality with Immigrants and Refugees”
Adult Midweek Class - Session 2
Wednesday, September 26, 2018
6:30-7:30 pm, Room 109

There are more refugees in the world today than at any point in human history. Does the Bible have anything to say about issues like this? Yes! Using material created by World Relief, in Session 2, we will explore:

  • the Biblical mandate to welcome and care for the stranger
  • briefly discuss current policy issues related to immigrants and refugees
  • explore how Christians can welcome the stranger, befriend refugees and immigrants, and help them thrive…without getting caught up in partisan politics.

Do you have a heart for working with grade school kids? Then our Homework Helpers team needs you!
No formal teaching experience is necessary--just a willingness to help kids. However, a current 2018-2019 Kennewick Volunteer form must be on file with the district before you start—get it at Westgate’s front desk or at online at ksd.org. You must sign in this form in front of a KSD employee. Here’s the link: http://www.ksd.org/Resources/Community/Volunteer . If you are interested, please let Kathy Dechter know right away. Contact her at 627-0950 or by email at ktdechter@gmail.com so she can get you up to speed before you begin.
Homework Helpers are also collecting new or VERY gently used Kinder through 5th grade books. Our kids appreciate them so much--many do not have any books of their own at home. Please bring all books to the marked bin in the Narthex. Thank you!
