$4.7 Million Grant To Fund NPR Regional Journalism Hubs NPR announced it will receive $4.7 million from philanthropists Eric and Wendy Schmidt toward its growing collaborative local newsroom project. The grant will launch a new Midwest regional hub in partnership with public stations in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa. The money will also bolster the California news hub announced earlier this year with a renewed focus on investigative reporting and coverage relevant to underserved communities . NPR is already operating regional hubs in Texas and in the Gulf states of Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama. More about the grant

StateImpact Wins Regional Edward R. Murrow Award KGOU and our partnering stations have won a regional Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio Television Digital News Association. The winning entry was StateImpact Oklahoma reporter Jackie Fortier's extensive coverage of Oklahoma's lawsuits against opioid manufacturers. It won the Continuous Coverage category in Region 6, which encompasses Texas and Oklahoma, and will progress to the RTDNA's national contest. Revisit coverage

StoryCorps Connect: App Brings Virtual Interview Experience Whether you are a front-line or essential worker or just someone adjusting to a new normal, there are so many stories to tell during this COVID-19 pandemic, a time that is unlike any other in recent memory. Responding quickly to a new way of talking together in lockdown, StoryCorps has developed a new platform that enables you to record a StoryCorps interview with a loved one remotely using video conference technology. The audio and a still photo from each interview goes into the StoryCorps archive at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress and will be preserved for posterity. KGOU to Air Live 'Summer Breeze' Concerts Norman residents might be familiar with The Depot's annual Summer Breeze Concert Series, with live performances at Lions Park on Sunday evenings. This year, the concerts come to you, wherever you are. KGOU will broadcast the series live every-other Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m., beginning this week, May 24. Highlights of Jazz in June 2019 on Memorial Weekend It's a tradition every Memorial Day weekend -- KGOU revisits the previous year's Jazz in June festival. This year we're in a different place in time and the festival has been postponed until September, but we're still honoring the outdoor music fest from 2019 on this holiday weekend. On Sunday, May 24 you'll hear highlighted performances from Blues band Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal, and jazz groups The Jonathan Scales Fourchestra and Funky Knuckles. Tune in from 1 to 5 for that outdoor festival feeling!
