Oklahoma Engaged: Election Coverage Ramps Up
|
Oklahomans voted in the presidential primary in early March, but the primaries for other federal, state and local races are coming up June 30, along with some consequential state questions. KGOU and our public media partners are gearing up for this year's elections with our Oklahoma Engaged collaboration. You'll be hearing some familiar voices--and some new ones--on the air. KGOU is freshening up our Friday evening lineup with a brand-new music program,
Tonic: The Funky Groove Show
. A KGOU original production hosted by Michael Bendure,
Tonic
premieres tomorrow, June 12, from 9 to 11 p.m. Each week you'll hear a mix of funk, groove, soul, disco, jazz, hip hop and more, from recording artists spanning the past six decades. As host, Michael's goal is to provide a weekly dose of feel-good music with an overarching message of unity, harmony, love and acceptance

is moving to Thursdays, beginning tonight, as well as its Sunday evening airing. Join host Christian McBride, now on Thursdays at 9 p.m., and don't miss the show's latest series of Alone Together Duets on video.

Spring Fundraising Update: Donation Delivered!
|

For KGOU's spring membership drive, we partnered with Oklahoma City law firm Phillips Murrah to provide funds for personal protective equipment to the front-line health workers at OU Medicine. Phillips Murrah pledged a donation of $10 to OU Medicine for each of the first 300 donations to KGOU. Listeners stepped up to give, and the goal was met within a week of our kickoff date of May 5.

With the disappointing cancellation of this year's Tiny Desk Contest road tour, NPR Music remains committed to celebrating the great music and artists who entered. NPR is introducing Tiny Desk Contest Top Shelf

a weekly livestream series on YouTube hosted by Bob Boilen and a guest, featuring stand-out entries and leading up to the announcement of this year’s winner. Episodes will drop weekly on Thursdays at 2 p.m. CT, starting today through July 30.

Oklahoma Entry Named A Finalist
|
Congratulations to the senior class of Stilwell High School in eastern Oklahoma, whose podcast was named a finalist in NPR's Student Podcast Challenge! They investigated why their town was dubbed "
the early death capital of the U.S.
" last year, and offered a window into the
poverty, generational trauma, and addiction
that led to that designation. They also showcased their local pride and hopes for the future.
