'Jazz In June' Starts Tonight
|
KGOU is a sponsor of Norman's premier outdoor jazz festival, which kicks off this evening for three nights of free, live concerts. Jazz in June's 2019 lineup of performers includes Blues band Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal, and jazz groups The Jonathan Scales Fourchestra and Funky Knuckles. Join KGOU, KOSU and StateImpact Oklahoma to talk politics and policy on Tuesday, June 25, 5:30 to 7 p.m., at Waters Edge Winery in the Automobile Alley district in Oklahoma City. NPR And Local Stations Shine In National Murrow Awards

More than 70 local NPR member stations -- including KGOU -- received regional Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association this year, with a range of market sizes and regions represented. 23 stations went on to win national Murrow Awards, as announced earlier this week. NPR Podcast Makes Discovery In Civil-Rights-Era Unsolved Murder

NPR’s podcast
White Lies
has been chronicling the 1965 murder of Boston minister James Reeb in Selma, Alabama, which spurred passage of the Voting Rights Act. The case remains officially unsolved, as three men charged in 1965 were acquitted by an all-white jury.

in which he admits his involvement.

Special 4th of July Programming
|
We're still finalizing the schedule, but KGOU will be airing special programming on July 4 for the Independence Day holiday. Once again KGOU will be broadcasting the music to accompany Norman's fireworks show at approximately 9:45 p.m. that evening. And The Capitol Steps feel it's their patriotic duty to put the "mock" in democracy with a one-hour musical 4th of July send-up. Watch our Special Programs page for exact date and times.
