A Holy Week Like Never Before
The week leading up to Easter is called Holy Week. This year Holy Week will be very special as we carry on traditions, reach out to the community, and welcome new ideas to grow, shine, and love.
Palm Sunday, March 24, will be quite a day as we have several of our music programs, including children, participating in worship. We will celebrate not only Palm Sunday but also Passion Sunday as we remember the prayers of Jesus on the cross as he is dying. That afternoon we welcome the community onto our campus for our third annual Eggstravaganza. This newer event has been very popular with families in our area as they come for Easter egg hunts, crafts, food, games, and more. I hope you have a chance to help out or just enjoy the event and be a smiling face to the 400 people who usually attend.
On Holy Tuesday we hope you will join us as we share in a short service called Holy Week Scripture and Song. Music and scripture from Holy Week will be interspersed in this first-time service to which our Winter Shelter guests are also invited. Yes, from the Wednesday before Holy Week through the Wednesday of Holy Week we will be hosting our neighbors who need shelter and food. I can’t imagine a better way to remember and follow Jesus than to humbly serve others in his name. Please be part of this amazing ministry and get to know some of our neighbors in Virginia Beach.
Maundy Thursday this year will be a unique service you won’t want to miss. This year we are emulating what Jesus would have done that night as we share in an authentic Passover Meal together, listen to Rabbi Derek Blumenthal from the Chosen People Ministries talk about how Jesus as the Messiah is pointed to in the Passover ceremony, and then celebrate Communion and Tenebrae together. We will eat and worship together in the Fellowship Hall as the choir leads us in a moving rendition of Were You There? You will never think about Jesus’ last night with his disciples in the same way again.
Finally, we come to Easter Sunday, the culmination of our 40 days of waiting and preparing. We celebrate Jesus’ resurrection at 7:00 am for the Easter Sunrise Service outside followed by a delicious breakfast. Our praise team will lead the Contemporary Easter Service at 8:45 that morning. A special guest orchestra along with the choir will add to our Traditional Easter Service at 11:00. We will have a special gift for everyone who comes that day as a reminder to pray like Jesus.
March is full of wonderful events but Holy Week will be extra special this year. In the meantime, keep praying like Jesus, serving like Jesus, loving like Jesus.

The month of March is spiritually full with Lent, Holy Week, and Easter celebrations, and the Sanctuary Choir is working on some very powerful music for each Sunday that you will not want to miss. Our Praise Team will share songs with lyrics that can touch every searching soul during weekly services and for the fully contemporary service Easter Sunday morning. The children’s Music Makers groups, Sanctuary Choir and Praise Team will all join together for our Palm Sunday processional and we will welcome an orchestra during the traditional Easter service.
The messages of Jesus’ prayers and events in this season are poignant and can reach the hearts of Christians and seekers so deeply. I am happy to say that our winter shelter guests will be invited to enjoy a Holy Week Scripture and Song service sponsored by the Serve team in the sanctuary on Tuesday, March 26th from 7:45-8:15pm. YOU are invited as well, to come to a casual evening of singing the glory and telling the story of our Lord with our KGPC guests.
During this month of emphasis on prayer, please remember the music ministry members. The weight of the subject of the cross is heavy in our music and preparing it can be taxing. But of course, we know the darkness is not the end of the song... Hallelujah! 🎶

New Members
On February 25th, we were blessed to welcome two new members to our church, Belle Powell and Beth Harrison.
Belle grew up at KGPC, being baptized here at seven years old. She's been involved in so many programs here at the church and is a very active participant in all of the youth events at the church.
Beth is transferring from Providence Presbyterian in Fairfax, VA. She moved to Virginia Beach in June of 2021 to live with her daughter, Mandi Powell, and her family. Now retired, Beth enjoys many aspects of stagecraft and works with Little Theater of Virginia Beach and Little Theater of Norfolk. She also enjoys needlecraft, primarily crochet & embroidery.
Please give our newest members a wonderful, warm KGPC welcome!

Winter Shelter
Right now, we have a "Welcome Guests" banner in the connection point. Please take a moment to sign the banner, and to write a note of welcome or encouragement to our guests on the postcards next to the banner.
Please consider donating fast food gift cards, books, snacks, or monetary gifts for bus passes for Winter Shelter. We also still need help with food and serving needs, so if you can, sign up in the Connection Point for that as well. Thank you!

Core Value #7: Forgiving as we have been forgiven
READ: Colossians 3:12-15
As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful.
- What captured your attention or imagination?
- What might God be up to in this passage for us today?
- What prayer joys or concerns do you have?

So far, we have collected over 100 cards, some of which have been included in PIN Lunches and some which will be given out this week to Food Bank and Meals on Wheels recipients! We have lots of people in our community who need a word of encouragement and, even more, to be reminded of the love of Christ, and we are asking each person to write a card each week in worship (Cards are available in the pews). You can also write cards at home (use your own cards or take some from the table by the office) and drop them off whenever you are at church
