Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart

As the trees proudly display their oranges, reds, and golds, family plans are being made for Thanksgiving, and sweaters emerge from their summer hibernation, we know that Fall is in full swing. Autumn always heightens my sense of thankfulness: for the beauty of the earth, for family that gather during the holidays, for the unconditional love of God in Jesus Christ, for a dynamic church family, for dear friends, and for the basics of life, such as food, shelter, health and financial resources. What are you thankful for? We are collecting your answers to this question as we begin our November series, “Giving Thanks.” For three weeks we will join together to give thanks with a grateful heart!

As Christians, we also know the One to whom we give thanks. “O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His steadfast love endures forever!” (Psalm 107:1) We give thanks for who God is and for what God has done for us in Jesus Christ. How do you give thanks to God? “Life is God’s gift to us. What we do with it is our gift to God.” One of the ways we give thanks is through our 2023 pledges. This Sunday, October 30 is Commitment Sunday where we say, “Thank you!” to a God who has given us so much. A brochure and pledge card have been mailed and more will be available at church on Sunday to give you the opportunity to partner in what God is doing through this church in the community. You may come in person to drop off your card, mail it, fill out the online form, or email your pledge to [email protected].

A transformed life of gratitude includes offering a percentage of our blessings back to God so God can bless more people through us. Pray over your pledge this year and what percentage of your income adequately expresses your thanksgiving to God. Thank you in advance for your faithfulness, your gratitude, and your willingness to be part of the amazing ministry happening at this church. Thanks be to God!

Grow Stronger, Shine Brighter, Love Deeper, Transform Your World,

Intentional Christmas

Are you looking for a Christmas gift that's perfect for anyone (especially that person who has everything or is difficult to shop for)? Something that's easy to wrap and easy to mail? Something that will not only show your love to the recipient but will also shine the love of Christ to someone in need? Do you want to be intentional about celebrating Christ's birth by doing something he asked us to do?

You can feed the hungry, house the homeless, and share the true joy of Christmas with your loved ones all at the same time by donating a night or week of Winter Shelter in someone's honor. For $15 (one night) or $100 (one week), you can provide a hot dinner, a safe place to sleep, case management services, and a warm breakfast to someone who is homeless, and receive a gift card to share with your recipient that tells them about the gift you made in their honor.

Cards will be available every Sunday in November before and after worship.

Director of Music Ministry Search Team

Monthly Report November 2022

The Director of Music Ministry Search Team is happy to announce that we are conducting second interviews with our final candidates and are hoping to have a permanent person in place at the beginning of 2023. Thank you for your prayers as we make progress with our final decision.

Word Share Prayer is a monthly scripture reading/reflection that Session and the leaders of ministries use to start their meetings. We will include this in the monthly ENews for you to use throughout the month to read and meditate on.

 1 Thessalonians 5:12-18

But we appeal to you, brothers and sisters, to respect those who labor among you, and have charge of you in the Lord and admonish you; esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. And we urge you, beloved,[b] to admonish the idlers, encourage the faint-hearted, help the weak, be patient with all of them. See that none of you repays evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to all. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

WORSHIP SERIES

Giving Thanks Fall Worship Series

How often do you stop to give thanks? What do you give thanks for? This three week November series will focus on what we might give thanks to God for in this church, in our lives, and in our relationship with God. Living a life of gratitude flows from a heart that has experienced God’s goodness. You will have the chance to reflect on those things you’d like to offer thanks for and how you might express your gratitude in some way. How can gratitude be a powerful force in your life?

November 6   Giving Thanks for KGPC

I Corinthians 1:1-9; 2 Thessalonians 1:1-8

Paul was constantly thanking God for the community of believers because of their acceptance of God’s grace, their faith, and their love. Today we give thanks for this community of faith, King’s Grant Presbyterian Church. We will hear stories of thanksgiving for this church and the impact we have had on people’s lives. It promises to be an inspiring service of personal testimonies!

Reflection Question: What are you thankful for at KGPC? How might you demonstrate your gratitude to the church in some way?

November 13 Giving Thanks for Life

I Thessalonians 5:12-22

Life certainly has its ups and downs. Yet, scripture says we are to give thanks no matter what is happening in our lives. How do we give thanks in ALL circumstances, especially the hard ones? Who are you thankful for in your life, both in the past and the present? What are the blessings you notice in your life and how will you express gratitude for them?

Reflection Question: What are you thankful for in your life? Who might you express gratitude toward and how?

November 20 Giving Thanks to God for Divine Gifts

Psalm 107:1-9; Luke 17:11-19

This week we often focus on what we are to be thankful for, and sometimes forget the One to whom we give thanks. We will explore the numerous reasons we have to give thanks to God, both for who God is and for all God has done for us. Whatever may happen in our lives, through it all we know that God is good…all the time. That’s something to give thanks for!

Reflection Question: What are the divine gifts you are thankful for? How will you live a life of gratitude in response to God’s grace and gifts?
