Turnaround time will be short! Private Pay Assisted Living survey will be released soon!
Relief funds for private-pay assisted living providers are under consideration from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

To help facilitate this, HHS has requested our assistance in gathering specific information on licensed senior living providers, including assisted living, memory care, and CCRCs, in U.S. states and territories.

Newest in for testing allocation kit includes Kansas homes
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently announced that it will begin providing nursing homes with a Point of Care (POC) rapid response testing instrument to bolster each facility’s ability to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The data collected through the NHSN system directly supports this initiative by helping to prioritize those nursing homes with testing needs and an increasing number of cases. CMS has also provided information about their methodology for prioritizing facilities and a listing of the facilities, as well as a list of frequently asked questions .

LTC Facilities Should Strictly Adhere To CDC’s COVID-19 Guidelines As Much As Feasible, Attorney Says
In a piece for  Provider Magazine  (7/9, 151K), attorney Kelli Sullivan wrote, "Of all of the industries affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, nursing centers and assisted living facilities are likely to face the greatest number of personal and litigation consequences." According to Sullivan, "The CDC, in addition to their normal infection prevention recommendations issued additional guidance specifically related to COVID-19." Sullivan said, "As much as feasible, facilities should adhere strictly to those guidelines, including assigning one or more individuals with infection control training to manage the facility’s infection control response, implementation of a plan for the testing of both staff and residents, require anyone with symptoms to be quarantined, regular monitoring of staff and residents for fevers, use personal protective equipment (PPE) as available and have a plan to track who a potentially infected worker came in contact with in the days before symptoms arose." Sullivan also addresses other potential COVID-19 litigation issues and related mitigation strategies as well.

KHCA/KCAL Annual Convention & Trade Show is going Virtual
Given the significant challenges the COVID-19 public health crisis has presented for care communities across Kansas,  KHCA/KCAL has decided not to meet in-person for our annual Convention & Trade Show this year.  Several things factored into this decision, new mandates for the size of gatherings, physical distancing requirements, new cleaning protocols, new guidelines for food service, travel bans and, most importantly, the uncertainty of where we'll be with this virus in the coming months.

KHCA/KCAL is planning to go "virtual" with our trade show/conference. We know that going virtual is a big change, but we still feel it is important to offer opportunities for you to share experiences and knowledge with each other. More information with be forthcoming on that in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your understanding as we navigate this public health crisis together. Ensuring the health and well-being of your residents, and individuals coming in/out of your care community, remains our top priority.

We salute you for the incredible work you do on a daily basis to protect and serve our most vulnerable citizens.
