Urgent Action Needed - Submit Information on Your Assisted Living Community to HHS
We continue to advocate that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) distribute a portion of CARES Act Provider Relief Funds to private-pay assisted living providers due to the heavy toll of COVID-19. As HHS considers this request, the agency has requested specific information on licensed/registered/certified assisted living and memory care providers that are stand-alone or part of a CCRC and are located in the U.S states and its territories.

We are partnering with Argentum, ASHA, and LeadingAge to assist HHS to collect this information from providers through a private, secure data collection portal at  HHSproviderfund.org . Providers who participate in this effort may help ease a potential distribution of or application for funds.

Assisted living providers must submit their data into the portal by Monday, August 3rd at 4 p.m. Central.

NHSN Data Reporting Report
The below Excel file combines the two reports we have previously sent you on Thursdays regarding the NHSN data: the F-884 citation list and facilities that failed to pass the CMS quality assurance (QA) checks from successfully submitted data. The data are as of the week ending 7/19/2020.

Regarding the F-884 citations:
  • Facilities are cited for not submitting data to NHSN two weeks in a row.
  • We suggest you reach out to members in your state to help those who have not submitted data in the last two weeks since they will likely continue to get citations each Tuesday (CMS pulls data Monday morning to see if facilities have submitted data by Sunday at midnight). The CMPs will increase each week they fail to submit.
  • For members who are trying to register or submit but are having technical problems, CDC has set up a team to work with SNFs that have been cited to help get their issues resolved to avoid future citations.
  • Members should also follow the directions in the F-884 and CMP notification on how to file an IIDR if they have been trying to register or submit data. We have a template IIDR appeal form members can use available on our website.
  • Facilities must look in their QIES/CASPER Reporting system to find the 2567 and citation letter.

Regarding facilities with QA issues:
  • We have created the attached PDF that simplifies the CMS/CDC QA process. Please share this with your members who are struggling to pass QA checks.
  • It is important that the data submitted by SNFs is plausible, so we can successfully analyze trends with COVID cases.
  • Below are links provided by CMS/CDC on how to properly enter data:

We will continue to send out these files each week. If you have questions please email  research@ahca.org

Our Annual Convention & Trade Show is going Virtual
Given the significant challenges the COVID-19 public health crisis has presented for care communities across Kansas,  KHCA/KCAL has decided not to meet in-person for our annual Convention & Trade Show this year.  Several things factored into this decision, new mandates for the size of gatherings, physical distancing requirements, new cleaning protocols, new guidelines for food service, travel bans and, most importantly, the uncertainty of where we'll be with this virus in the coming months.

KHCA/KCAL is planning to go "virtual" with our trade show/conference. We know that going virtual is a big change, but we still feel it is important to offer opportunities for you to share experiences and knowledge with each other. More information with be forthcoming on that in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your understanding as we navigate this public health crisis together. Ensuring the health and well-being of your residents, and individuals coming in/out of your care community, remains our top priority.

We salute you for the incredible work you do on a daily basis to protect and serve our most vulnerable citizens.
