Legislation Aims To Boost Shortage Of Health Care Professionals
McKnight’s Senior Living (10/4, Gaivin) reports, "Legislation introduced last week by Reps. James Comer (R-KY) and Morgan McGarvey (D-KY) aims to boost the nation’s shortage of nurses, nurse aides and other health care professionals." According to the article, "If passed, the Health Care Workforce Investment Act (HR 9812) would direct the secretary of Health and Human Services to ‘award grants to states to establish, increase the availability of, and improve access to, qualified health care programs to increase and strengthen the health care workforce in such states.’" The article adds, "Senior living and care advocates applaud the initiative." AHCA/NCAL Public Affairs Senior Vice President Rachel Reeves "noted that the bill addresses both funding and collaboration in boosting the pipeline of health care workers." Reeves "added that the legislation confirms that Congress recognizes the existing workforce shortage ‘and yet there’s more to be done to specifically develop nurses, nurse aides and other roles critical to long-term care to ensure access to care for our nation’s seniors is protected.’"
