Federal Oversight Of Assisted Living Communities "Preemptive," State-Based Regulation "Strong," According To Industry Advocates

McKnight’s Senior Living (4/2, Bonvissuto) reports ranking members of the Senate committees on Aging, Finance and Banking, Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), "asked the Government Accountability Office on Monday to determine whether additional federal oversight of assisted living is needed," one of four questions "in a request the lawmakers made to the agency to update its 2018 report on state and federal oversight of assisted living" communities, including those that participate in Medicaid, "by conducting new research." The NCAL "said that it would be ‘preemptive’ for" the Government Accountability Office to create "another publication before new reporting requirements mandated under the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid’s Medicaid Access Rule," finalized last year, are implemented, while describing "state-based regulation of assisted living as ‘strong.’"

Reintroduced Bill Aims To Reform Prior Authorization For Medicare Advantage Plans

Skilled Nursing News (3/28, Stulick) reports the Reducing Medically Unnecessary Delays in Care Act of 2025 aims to "reform prior authorization for Medicare and Part D prescription drug plans in addition to MA," according to The Hill. The bill would allow "only specialty board certified physicians...to make important decisions about treatment." The legislation was reintroduced by Rep. Mark Green (R-Tenn.) on Capitol Hill Thursday.
