Upcoming AHCA Webinar: Briefing on SNF PPS FY25 Proposed Rule

Last week, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued the proposed rule for the skilled nursing facility prospective payment system fiscal year 2025 update. AHCA reviewed the proposed rule and developed a summary exclusive to members outlining key provisions and impacts on members.

AHCA will host a webinar on Friday, April 5 at 9:00 a.m. CT. on what you need to know about CMS’ proposal. This webinar is free for all AHCA members. 

For those unable to attend, the webinar will be recorded and available on-demand soon after. A certificate of attendance will be available after the webinar (no CEs).
Cost, interpretation of new enhanced barrier precautions worry providers as rule kicks in

2024 AHCA/NCAL Awards Program- Now Open!

Nominations for the 2024 AHCA/NCAL Awards Program are now open! AHCA/NCAL members are strongly encouraged to nominate those inspiring leaders and unsung colleagues who go above and beyond to provide exceptional service in the long term care profession. 

The AHCA Awards Program honors individuals who are dedicated to improving the quality of lives of residents and their surrounding communities. All AHCA member facilities are encouraged to apply, including skilled nursing facilities, short and long term care facilities, Not for Profit (NFP) long term care providers, intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD) residential services providers (including intermediate care facilities for individuals with intellectual disabilities (ICFs/IID), and other individuals who work in the long term care field, including direct care, education, research, and resident advocacy. READ MORE

Let’s talk about Infection Prevention and Control, but let’s NOT talk about Enhanced Barrier Precautions…what a confusing mess that is(!) and it went into effect April 1st! There are so many unanswered questions and potential situations. I am told “more to come”, meaning there will be some clarification of the QSO letter as we all move through the survey process.

Rather, let’s talk about Pneumococcal Vaccines. Last month, it became apparent that surveyors are considering PCV 20 REQUIRED even if the resident has been considered fully vaccinated in the past or at least that is how the CDC guidance is being interpreted by surveyors. Medicare Part A Pay Rule Proposals Prompt Concern Among Nursing Home Stakeholders

According to McKnight’s Long-Term Care News (4/1, Berklan), "Nursing home stakeholders are reacting with contempt and concern to key provisions of the newly proposed fiscal 2025 Medicare Part A pay rule." The planned 4.1% pay raise for nursing homes drew "mixed reaction," and "the proposal raised the most eyebrows with its call to increase the rate and amount of possible civil monetary penalties."
