Clinical Update from KHCA Consultant Linda Farrar

There is a LOT of news this week related to our noble profession…after CMS decided to appeal a Texas judge decision to negate the staffing mandate a few weeks ago, a judge in Iowa in a similar suit decided that CMS had exceeded the authority given them by Congress & again negated the staffing mandate. Now we wait again to see if the Trump Department of Justice decides to appeal that decision also. But there is hope that perhaps those decisions are “one foot in the grave”, as McKnights put it this morning.

Feds announce insurers, MA plans will reduce, refine use of prior authorizations

Dozens of US health plans, including Medicare Advantage plans, have pledged to reduce their use of prior authorizations, federal officials and the nation’s largest health plan trade association announced Monday. READ MORE

KHCA/KCAL District 1 Round Table

KHCA/KCAL Board Members would like to invite you to the KHCA/KCAL District 1 Round Table hosted by Suzie Sexton, Brett Pu, Jeremy Whitt, Miles Nease, Fred Pitzel and KHCA/KCAL President and CEO Linda MowBray. District IV Vice President- Representing Smith, Jewell, Republic, Washington, Marshall, Osborne, Mitchell, Cloud, Clay, Riley, Pottawatomie, Lincoln, Ottawa, Dickinson, Geary, Ellsworth, Saline, Morris, Rice, McPherson, Marion and Chase County

Government Affairs Vice President – Focusing on legislation and regulations that would be favorable to the residents and providers of long-term health care.

If you are passionate about contributing to the Associations leadership and growth, we encourage you to apply.

Adult Care Home Operator Course

7/16 - 7/29/25

This hybrid course is designed to provide you with everything necessary to prep you to become a Registered Adult Care Home Operator in the State of Kansas. The class is based on the principles of assisted living as outlined in the KDADS regulation manual and is taught by a variety of presenters that are currently working in the field. The course will be facilitated by Joan Hudson, KCAL Clinical Consultant and Polly Berkley, VP of Operations and Education for KHCA/KCAL. This course provides knowledge and insight on the rules, regulations and responsibilities governing the operation of a state licensed only adult care home.
