FDA Reminder: Use Established Choking Rescue Protocols*

The FDA is urging the public and healthcare providers to rely on proven choking-rescue techniques—such as back blows and abdominal thrusts—rather than unapproved anti-choking devices. Some products on the market have not been evaluated by the FDA and may delay effective care.

Key Point: Follow Red Cross/AHA guidelines first. Unapproved devices should not replace established, evidence-based methods.
