We have some important updates about payor updates, new programs, and upcoming events. There's a lot of information, and we want to keep you informed. Please read through this email carefully and let us know if you have any questions.

Important Updates

KHF Member Survey Results: Medical Assistants Performing Urine Catheterizations

KHF recently surveyed member practices about whether medical assistants (MAs) are permitted to perform urine catheterizations. Of the 20 practices that responded, 50% reported allowing MAs to perform the procedure, while 50% do not.

Twelve respondents completed a follow-up question about training and procedures. Of those respondents, 75% reported having documented procedures and physician-approved training for MAs, 8% reported that they did not, and 17% selected “other.” One practice noted that a clinical supervisor who is an RN provides training and oversight.

Practices may use these results as a reference when reviewing their own policies, training requirements, competency documentation and oversight procedures.

New AAP Vaccine Resources for Your Waiting Room

The American Academy of Pediatrics has developed a new waiting room resource to help families better understand how vaccines protect children and teens.

The four-page resource explains how vaccines teach the immune system to recognize and resist diseases and addresses common questions about vaccine schedules, annual immunizations, vaccination during mild illness and pregnancy, vaccine ingredients, long-term protection and autism misinformation. It also directs families to additional videos and information from trusted pediatric sources.

Practices are encouraged to display the resource in waiting rooms or share it directly with families to support vaccine conversations and reinforce the importance of following the AAP-recommended immunization schedule.

New Influenza Guidance and Immunization Family Resources from AAP

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has released new recommendations and resources to help practices prepare for the 2026–27 influenza season.

The AAP also introduced Flu Vaccine: Immunization Facts for Families, the first in a planned series of immunization fact sheets designed for practices to share with parents and caregivers.
