Katie Beckett Medicaid Coverage Update

The Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) recently shared an important update regarding Katie Beckett Medicaid coverage. A temporary IT issue in early February caused some children in the Katie Beckett program to be mistakenly flagged as ineligible, resulting in termination notices or brief coverage interruptions.

DCH has confirmed this was a system error — not a change in eligibility. All impacted cases are being reviewed and reinstated, with retroactive coverage to prevent gaps in care or billing. Families do not need to reapply, and providers have been asked not to cancel or reschedule appointments.

Practices may want to proactively reassure affected families and reinforce that coverage is being restored automatically.

New 2026 Codes: Immunization Counseling Without Administration

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recently released guidance on new standalone immunization counseling codes for 2026. These codes allow practices to report time spent counseling families when vaccines are not administered on the same date of service

The new CPT codes (90482–90484) are time-based and may be reported with an E/M visit (with modifier 25 when appropriate) or as a standalone service. Additional HCPCS codes may apply for Medicaid and managed care reporting.

Documentation should clearly reflect vaccines discussed, counseling provided, and the reason immunizations were not given. As payer policies continue to evolve, practices should confirm billing guidance with contracted plans.
