Coding Question from the March PA Meeting

Question: Code 90481 looks like counseling for a covid + flu type vaccine. Does the provider need to record total counseling time if they use this code to demonstrate the necessity?

Answer from Mary Suhr, Coding Consultant: 90481 is actually like 90461 except for COVID, it is not a counseling code. You would use it if you do a combo Covid/Flu vaccine where flu is the first component and COVID is the second component 90481.
